Re: Where's all the good stuff like iPhone and Android have?!

Great to see a thread addressing this.

Like many others, I'm not a fan of the iPhone - not particularly keen on having Apple tell me exactly how my phone should look and function, and what "apps" I am allowed or forbidden to use. Very happy with my Diamond 2 and the customisability of WM.

BUT....I do find myself looking enviously at those Apple adverts. It's frustrating how quickly developers have jumped on the Apple bandwagon. Don't get me wrong - I know devs have been working on WM programs for years, and there is some truly great stuff out there. And it's true most iPhone apps have WM equivalents.

I think the big draw of the iPhone apps are the ease of use. Fine, some people prefer to go online and get their info straight from websites. But sometimes it would be nice to have an app that just does all that for you.

I'd say the biggest draw of the iPhone is the App store. If we want a program, it's a case of opening a browser, heading to a forum and then trawl through search results to find the program, then the instructions of how to get it working properly on your phone. iPhone users just log into the App store, find what they want, install it then grin smugly. With Microsoft's record of ease of use and consumer-friendliness, does anyone think the upcoming WinMo app store is going to be anywhere near as good?

Of course, it's easier for Apple as they're catering for one device, with only one hardware configuration and one user interface. Which brings us full circle really. Are the benefits of the iPhone/app store worth having Apple dictate how your phone looks and runs? Not a chance!

Anyway, probably time to bring this probably pointless post to a close. Thanks for reading.
