Yeah that is kinda annoying but if you just press the "Chats" option on the left side, then select "Contact list" it'll keep the chat session in memory. Then you can re-open any chat sessions that you have active by again pressing the "Chats" option and just selecting the chat session you want to continue on. It'll show a check mark next to each chat session when you get a new message.

It is kinda annoying but that's the only way to keep your chat history alive at the moment. I wish they would make it like the AIM program where it keeps your chat session active under the name of the buddy your're chatting with.

So does Palringo use SMS for the IM or does it require an active data connection at all times (for typed messages, obviously I know the voice would require an active data connection).

Or does anyone know of a good IM that doesn't require an active data session? I don't want to kill the battery by signing into an IM...

You can use AIM over SMS . No data, just text messages.

It uses a data connection...but the drain is pretty minimal. It has a setting to help preserve battery life.

Download and install it...see for yourself. Then join the PPCGeeks group.

Does this program piggy back on the default OZ instant messenger program? Because anytime I get a message (AIM at least), I notice that that program is now running all of a sudden.

By default it auto starts. You can change that in settings
