Re: sprite backup update - 6.5

Yea, they sent me the update free but I doubt I will even install it.

I have paid for copies of both Sprite & SPB Backup.

After extensive testing & multiple restores from both, IMHO SPB BU is a much much better product....

SPB BU does absolutely flawless restores as long as you haven't changed the ROM, I have never even ONCE gotten a 100% perfect restore from Sprite.

Re: sprite backup update - 6.5

I haven't used SPB backup, so can't judge that app... I HAVE used Sprite for several years on two different devices (an Ipaq and now my Touch)... and had perfect restores every time. No problems at all. Sprite has saved my sanity on more than one occasion.

Re: sprite backup update - 6.5

Be careful using SPB Backup, it's not quite as bad as Resco Backup, oh, lords, that's an awful piece of backup software, at least in the latest version, Resco Backup doesn't wipe your device.

SPB Backup, from my usage never seemed to work as advertised.

Sprite also has issues, a poor new user interface which to me, I can't figure out why the buttons don't have text labels on the main screen, the application freezes my Mogul after restarting after a backup, etc., but those two would be my biggest complaints about the software, but in a sea of bad choices, it's the least harmful.

I have the Palm Treo 800w and have the version 6.1.0, and it says I have to pay 10.00 for the upgrade, this doesnt seem to be free.

Re: sprite backup update - 6.5

I have both SPB backup and Sprite backup installed and have tested both.

For everyday normal backups, I like SPB Backup better. It can use high compression so my images are smaller then Sprite and i have restored many times without problems.

I have Sprite installed for the ability to once in a while backup my 8 gig memory card directly to my pc which SPB apparently can not do.

I didn't even realize Sprite could do that, but when I need to BU my 8 gig card I just stick it in a USB reader & copy it to the PC.

As far as restores go, SPB BU has been absolutely perfect in this regard for me anyway (as long as the BU was made using the current ROM). I had to do a restore yesterday morning, I hard reset my XV6800 & restored a recent BU & when I got done you phone was EXACTLY the same as when the BU was made.....

Although both Sprite & SPB claim to be able to restore after a ROM upgrade, that is BS. I have tried both for this & neither one worked correctly for this (which is no real big surprise)

On the Sprite homepage it says the update for version 6 users is FREE, it's $10 for version 5 users.

Here's what I'd do:

-- back up your device
-- d/l version 6.5
-- install OVER your existing version 6.1.0
-- see if it works!

good luck... let us know what happens

Re: sprite backup update - 6.5

part of me would like to test this out just to see how the newest version functions... but i'm totally satisfied with SPB backup 2 for now, although I've used both sprite and spb in the past...

LOL, I was thinking the same thing.

I may decide to be the guinea pig & restore my system with it just out of curiousity.......
