App store for WM?
AT boy genius report today I read an article about "Skymarket" from what I gather, its an app store for WM that Microsoft is building. My question is; with all the great developers on ppcgeeks, smartphonejunkie and so on... Will you actually buy apps from "Skymarket"? I mean what will they have that guys like no2chem, emunutz, and dash at spj dont already have for us?
here is the link... http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/...indows-mobile/ |

Re: App store for WM?
I think you guys are missing the point. An App store will be great. A unified source for commercial and independent developers to sell their products. Not every device has the ability to launch Handango. It might even be a collaboration with Handango.
This is a great idea and its way overdue. The OP mentioned some ROM cooks. I doubt that that is considered app development. No offence to the cooks but all they do is RIP apart other peoples work. I currently use DCD 3.2.5. Great ROM but just because I cant rip apart a ROM doesn't make someone who can create. This app store will help those hundreds of developers at XDA-dev to gain an audience. One of the problems with XDA is that once your thread goes off the first screen so is your app or project. |

Re: App store for WM?
windows mobile really needs/needed a universal app store.
you gotta crawl all over the internet, sign up at various forums, just to find good applications for free or retail.. this shoulda been implemented a long time ago |

you know what man you make a good point. At first I was only thinking about the fact that everything you need/want is free or (you can donate) but I hadn't thought about how you have to spend hours googling stuff and signing up for a bunch of forums to get what you want. I just hope that if they do it... they do it right and don't over charge. thanks for your input bro! |

Re: App store for WM?
I think it would be great, unless they somehow made it prohibitive for independent developers to get their stuff on there (charge licensing fees).
My other fear is the disappearance of free software. |

Re: App store for WM?
there would still be freeware and the like, it would just be regulated and probably p***** thru some sort of standardized certification process to make it into the app store... who knows what their criteria would be for deciding worthy apps or not but this is my guess at how it would be undertaken...

Re: Windows Mobile App Store?
from what I understand, its supposed to come out with wm7. what scares me is that they are gonna try to do two things at once. i hope wm7 doesn't suffer because of this. I hope they do both of them right.
