PockeTwit - Twitter client

See it in action here.

I love twitter, but I just couldn't find a twitter client for my PPC that I liked. So I had some spare time wrote my own. It's pretty full featured -- it lets you see your timeline, replies, other users info, etc. It even integrates with twitpic so you can snap a picture for your status, and search.twitter.com so you can see what everyone's got to say about the latest news.

If you're using a touchscreen, it has a unique kinetic interface, so it's kind of fun to scroll up and down and view the menus on the sides. If not, it's still easy and functional :)

I'm still actively updating it, with about a release per day. It includes an auto-upgrade feature so it can check for the latest version and upgrade itself.

If you're a twitter user, you can try get my client from the google code site. Let me know if you have anything to say about it. You can contact me and see the latest developments at http://twitter.com/PockeTwitDev.

I guess no one on ppcgeeks uses twitter... because if they did they would all be posting here about this app... It is awesome man, gps integration and everything...

Seriously if you are a twitter person with a ppc, you should have this...

Wow, this looks sweet! I use ceTwit which has builtin Twitpic too...I'll check this app out tho, I like the look!

edit: Damn, it crashes upon boot, after configuring my profile. Can't use it :(

Re: PockeTwit - Twitter client

Used it today, awesome app for a mobile.
However, leaving it minimized could be fatal - battery drain in a couple hours. (as with most apps that use data)

Thanks a lot for the contribution, Jake!

Hi, it's nice to see some feedback on this here. To address a couple of the previous posts:

Sorry about the crashes sherv, I have fixed a lot of those issues in more recent builds. If you're still having a problem with the latest build (v.53), please let me know here or @PockeTwitDev on twitter.

When running in the background it will only use power when checking your account for new messages. It defaults to doing this every 5 minutes but you may want to make it longer or set it to 0 to disable it altogether.

Thanks again and be sure to let me know what you think.

After posting that, I hit you up on Twitter, and you helped me out. It works well now. Simply awesome!

I urge non-twitterers to sign up just to test this, and you'll like the app and twitter itself.

Sorry, haven't tried PockeTwit since experiencing the crash, will load up the latest version soon! Thanks for listening!!

Re: PockeTwit - Twitter client

I just loaded this up after a hard reset and it won't take my credentials. I picked twitter for the server, and I tried exactly what worked at twitter.com for my username and password...

edit.... i downloaded the new version and no more issue...

I agree. I've been using it for a couple months now, always being sure to check for updates, and its worked very well. I can do everything with this app that I can do on the twitter site on my desktop. The scroll is very responsive and I love the menus on either side of the feed.

I wish all winmo devs were as talented or paid as much attention to details and refinements. This is fantastic work. You should be charging money for this (if twitter allows apps to be sold), because I would pay for this for sure.

Re: PockeTwit - Twitter client

definetly the best twitter app! I would recommend you setup a website just for this app!

i was using tiny twitter before, it has this cool feature:

Geolocation
: if you have a GPS you can tell everyone where you are. It takes the boring latitude and longitude numbers your GPS returns (built in or bluetooth connected) and can do a reverse address lookup to tell you where you are near (not close enough for stalkers to find you!) and posts it to your timeline along with a Live Maps link so people can see where you are on a map as well.

maybe you could implement something like this in the future :D

great app!

Come on, man, don't go and post a competitor in the guy's thread...

I'd rather use pocket twit anyway, he listens to users, if you find a bug it is fixed in the next day's release. :headbang:

I wish this forum had the dancing banana as an emote.

Re: PockeTwit - Twitter client

just downloaded this last night and played around with it a little... (am not an experienced twitter user by no means) love the interface. i had been using opera mobile on my touch pro and just using the web interface.

now that i have played with it a little more this afternoon, i have a question i hope someone can help me with. has anyone ever had a problem with pocketwit closing after clicking on a link in a tweet? it has happened to me a couple of times.

thanks,
johnboyinfl

woody88 03-05-2009 02:00 PM

Re: PockeTwit - Twitter client

does anyone know how to enable opera mobile as the default browser for links in pocketwit? i tried to change in user agent, from 1, 2, 3 and 4, but it would always load the URL in PIE, but never opera mobile. I remember there used to be one time that did load the urls in pocketwit via opera mobile. I think I have also changed the registry to reflect opera mobile. Can someone shed some light on this as to why it is happening to me? much appreciated!

TheRealHotshot 03-05-2009 02:28 PM

Re: PockeTwit - Twitter client

To be honest I rather PIE open than the other one for my links! Why I don't know!? But hopes someone can find an answer to your problem

Re: PockeTwit - Twitter client

jsut installed this and set up twitter at the same time. I only have 1 friend I'm following so far and I see him from my desktop but can't see his most recent tweet in my mobile. Do i need to add him there as well or does it automatically add him to my mobile based on my profile?

bryn987 03-05-2009 03:05 PM

Re: PockeTwit - Twitter client

nevermind, he just did a new tweet and now i see him. Pocketwit will only work on new tweets once installed.

Very nice app so far

hmm, it doesn't update tweets once you restart unless you start playing with the menu

Love this twitter client on my Touch Pro. One thing I would like is to be able to do TwitPics via Ping.FM.
