![]() SAPIE - ORGANIZERS REVISED In these busy and hectic times an importance of self-organization is growing rapidly and became a vital issue for majority of business and laymen community. Such times spurred high demand on personal organizers – PC & mobile device-based alike. Today most popular Windows Mobile PIMs are Agenda Fusion and Pocket Informant. They offer good customizability and a lot of functions. They are tuned to look good on the 3,5 inch VGA screen and multiple tabs and views offer quite a lot of information. Let’s ask ourselves a question: are they really SO good? I mean, PIMs are true time-savers, but the necessity of studying 100 pages of manual often frightens even experienced users. And if you opt not to read you will quickly find yourself lost in all these checkboxes and windows. That’s why many users prefer to stick with preinstalled programs and only occasionally use reminders and other functions typical for PIMs. Another problem is the typing speed on mobile devices. It may vary from 20% to 60% of “normal” typing speed (on standard keyboard). That’s why many users prefer not to type at all on their mobile devices. Of course, it’s a cool idea to write letters with the help of your brand new pocketable, but notebook is always better for these purposes. Guys from Speereo Software state that their voice-controlled application Speereo Voice Organizer is the fastest PIM for Windows Mobile. SVO did win Best Software Awards from PocketPC Magazine, so at least this application is worth checking out. I decided to measure the time spent to perform several frequent operations. First column represents Microsoft Outlook (PC version) data input speed, second – Pocket Informant (it represents traditional PIMs like Agenda Fusion – both have many similarities, but PI works a bit quicker), and the last column lists figures for Speereo Voice Organizer (Sapie). ![]() The table illustrates the superiority of voice interface compared to traditional data input. Actually Sapie is significantly faster than typing in MS Outlook! Amount of errors in speech recognition engine is quite low. Speereo Voice Organizer is a very attractive application for any user. It is especially interesting for users who find traditional PIMs overloaded with functions and for those who have relatively small screens (2,2 – 2,8 inches). It will be helpful for people who are used to making lots of dictaphone records, but are dissatisfied with dozens of files piled up in folders: with Speereo Voice Organizer all data is neatly organized. And it’s definitely a good find for people who prefer really large notes and e-mails. Good job, Speereo! Visit the Speereo site! Appendix. EXAMPLES 1. Immediately after rice is cooked, mix in 6 tablespoons rice vinegar to the hot rice. Spread rice on a plate until completely cool. Place 1 sheet of seaweed on bamboo mat, press a thin layer of cool rice on the seaweed. Leave at least 1/2-inch top and bottom edge of the seaweed uncovered. This is for easier sealing later. Dot some wasabi on the rice. Arrange cucumber, avocado and smoked salmon to the rice. Position them about 1 inch away from the bottom edge of the seaweed. Slightly wet the top edge of the seaweed. Roll from bottom to the top edge with the help of the bamboo mat tightly. Cut roll into 8 equal pieces and serve. Repeat for other rolls. 5.
