Wisbar Advance 2.8 released

Copied straight from Lakeridge... but seems to be a nice and easy upgrade, and hell if it supposedly makes it faster im in... installed fine registration carried over perfect... now to see if it really is faster

Please note that this is a free upgrade to those who have already purchased a copy of WisBar Advance.

So, on with the list of changes:

What's New in WisBar Advance 2.8

Reduced memory usage
By rewriting the routines used to load and display the images, we have significantly reduced the memory consumption of the program. In some areas it has been reduced by nearly half.

Added an Italian translation.

Optimized some of the toolbar rendering code.
In some programs, the toolbars rendered rather slowly. I've made changes to speed this up.

The installer now properly detects if the themes have previously been installed.
The original goal of allowing the themes to be installed separately was to reduce the "wear and tear" on the WM5 flash memory system. However, that feature somehow got broken and allowed for themes to never be installed or to always be installed. With this build, the program will install the themes the first time WisBar is installed on the device. After that, though, the program will allow the installation of the themes to be optional.

Fixed a bug where the CloseOK shortcut (for assigning to a hardware button) did not work correctly on some skins.
There were a couple of instances where the CloseOK shortcut would not work if some skins were set up in a specific manner. This has been fixed and the shortcut should function, no matter what.

Made a change to the signal strength detection routines on WM5 devices.
The signal strength should no longer display zero bars when the user has a signal.

Removed the flickering in the SIP button on WM5 devices.
This was introduced in the last beta build and has been corrected.

Fixed a bug where the softkey settings in the custom skin were not preserved.
It was discovered that the softkey skin settings were being improperly saved. Either values were not remembered or they would be picked up from another section of the skin. This now works properly.

Made some changes to the system settings applets to accomodate newer control panel applets that don't follow Microsoft's "standard".
Some of the newer devices are having problems centering in the control panel applets. We've made a change to work around these issues.

Rewrote the notification hooks to make them more reliable and less prone to crashes and not appearing.
Some of the problems with notifications not appearing were due to the way in which the hooks were implemented. This has been corrected.

Toolbar buttons that contain both text and images will now display both, instead of just text.
From the very beginning of the program, toolbar buttons that contained both buttons and text would always just display the text when skinned. This has been corrected.

Programs will no longer leave icons in the task list.
For whatever reason, some programs leave their icon in the list of running programs. Now, WisBar will attempt to remove those icons when it detects that the program is no longer running.

That's the one that's been out for a while

I've been running 2.8.0.2 since I purchased WA2, thanks for the detailed info though!

Well give or take, version 2.8.0.2 was released on Feb. 8, 2007 so it's not like it was released months ago

Regardless of the release date, It f***ing rocks even harder then before... It knocked off 7mb of used memory going from 2.6 up to 2.8

Now with that and AKU 3.5 "NoJunk" and an unlocked EXT rom I have fallen in love with this phone yet a third time...

Thanks for the news post... I rarely check their main site...

I didn't use earlier versions long enough to tell the difference, but uninstalled them earlier versions due to slow down.

I've been using 2.8 and I'm happy.

WA3 -- didn't uninstall Wa2

Has anyone installed Wa3?

It's supposed to ask you to uninstall WA2 but it didn't on my system. Now i have WA2 and WA3 installed and it's messing up my themes. It gives me part of my theme.

What do you recommend? Uninstalling WA2 and then re-tweaking everything on Wa3? or can I save my settings and merge them to the WA3 folder?

help....

Thanks.

I would do it in order. Uninstall WA3 (most recent install), then uninstall WA2, soft reset, clean registry, etc. Then re-install WA3.

Hopefully that will work... that's how I'd do it.
