Portable XP on your SD using Mojopac

This is not XP replacing your windows mobile os, but a virtual XP installed on your SD card. USB Mass Storage device emulator such as card export, or wm5torage is required.

Install Mojopac to your card, run it, install all your favorite progs (your usb mass storage drive becomes your c: drive while inside your Mojopac), and use your portable XP on your friends, or families computer. When you unmount your mojopac drive (eject), no traces of your use are left behind.

Some real geeky stuff, i suggest you geeks check it out. Minimizes the lugging of your laptop. Best of all, it's free, or at least for now it is.

Re: Portable XP on your SD using Mojopac

Pretty freaking awesome. So I guess with this you can virtually take your computer anywhere there is another computer available.

I don't think you would be able to install every single program that is on your home pc but just the ones you use the most. I'm not really sure in what situation I'd be using this but the concept is awesome and might give a try just for kicks.

Here a link to the demo that shows how it works http://www.mojopac.com/portal/content/how/demo.jsp

Re: Portable XP on your SD using Mojopac

You can do the almost same thing using "The Ultimate Boot CD for Windows" and "Portable Apps"... Nice tricks, but makes more sense to carry this on a USB stick to me...

Re: Portable XP on your SD using Mojopac

i'm carrying a lexar jumpdrive that has PowerToGo Portable Applications Software, that i've used occasionally, but i've actually lost track of that little thing... as far as booting goes I actually prefer cf cards as older laptops will boot off pccard but not usb (usb adaptor for desktops works) but that's just me.

I look forward to trying this out as I ALWAYS have my phone and usb cord with me.

Re: Portable XP on your SD using Mojopac

I've used mojopac for months now, and it is kinda cool, I have it installed on a thumb drive, and it is like having a PC in your pocket (in a way), but the part I don't like are all the 'extras' that install on your PC (I promptly deleted), and it is slightly irritating that it only works on XP, and with Vista (YUCK) getting so wode-spread, I would think a Vista oriented mojo shoulf be out soon!!!

But overall I do recomend it. I wouldn't use it on anything less than 2GB because of installing mojo itself, and THEN all the apps/docs you need. I carry around my IE favorites, a photo editor, and a couple other utilities I use at my friends/families computers!!!

Re: Portable XP on your SD using Mojopac

yea i'm familiar with the ultimate cd, and booting from flash drive and those other solutions, which the best to me is the bootable XP from flash drive. But, not all pc's have the boot from USB option. Furthermore, a usb drive is yet another device to carry.

this mojopac here eliminates having to carry an extra cd, a pen drive, etc. Jus your phone, and cord.

trying to make the phone an all around solution and shed those lil extra bits and pieces here and there. like shaggy said, phone, and usb cord is enough as i also carry mines all the time.

Re: Portable XP on your SD using Mojopac

Look into Damn Small Linux, Puppy Linux, or Pendrive Linux if you want a fast, compact live OS that you can boot from a thumb drive. I keep one on me for troubleshooting computers and it has saved my *** a few times.

Re: Portable XP on your SD using Mojopac

yea those are nice for "booting" from a flash drive. and once again, there's also a "bootable" XP. thing is though...this would require you to carry a flashdrive. The Mogul can't "boot" an OS because wm5torage doesn't work unless card export drivers are first installed. for those drivers to get installed, the host OS has to be running first. So there will be no "booting" from the Mogul's microsd.

Wm5torage on the 6700 though i do believe will boot. one of the things i miss abt the 6700. sometimes those small lil features, hold a lot of weight. If i still had the 6700, i'd be using the usb bootable XP, or usb bootable puppylinux, rather then Mojopac.
