What do you use to remote desktop from your WM6 phone to PC from internet connection?

Hello, I'm trying to remote desktop to my PC from my HTC Vogue.

I am currently running WM 6.1 with the Rev A Altel update.

I do have Remote Desktop Mobile but I don't think I can get it to work unless I am connected to the local network of the PC I am trying to get into..

What is the best way I can remote in entirely through my internet connection? (free)

I use LogMeIn at www.logmein.com. They have a pay version, but I use the free. Works nicely from my Treo and my Dell Axim.

ive never been able to get remote desktop working either except for being connected via activesync. im behind a router so im sure thats the issue..

much as ive used logmein in the past, its a great piece of software..
but i just dont like anything running in the background of my pc.. of course logmein requires a process to run in the background..

Re: What do you use to remote desktop from your WM6 phone to PC from internet connect

Logmein Remote Desktop is cool and all, but the free version is pretty limited and as others mentioned, it has a background process that's kinda sketchy. BUT Logmein also has a free VPN tool called Hamachi.

Hamachi lets you create virtual private networks in a MSN Messenger style interface. There are clients for pretty much every OS. What this lets you do is treat all the computers that you have Hamachi loaded on as if they are all on the same private network. This is accomplished by assigning (automatically) each computer on the network a 5.x.x.x IP. So, things like Remote Desktop are super easy to do. The bonus of all of this is that *everything* that is IP based works, not just remote desktop. You can map network drives, you can do remote administration, and remote desktop.

Re: What do you use to remote desktop from your WM6 phone to PC from internet connect

I just use Remote Desktop Mobile. It works great. XP was a bit choppy at times, but Vista seems to connect great. All I had to do was forward port 3389 from my router to my PC and for ease I setup a DynDNS entry so I can just go to a url instead of an IP.

A VPN setup is an option too. I've got an OpenVPN server running on my router as well and the OpenVPN mobile client on my Mogul. Works well enough.

Basically, all of the options are going to depend on bandwidth. Both options don't require an extra process to be running on your PC either unless you don't want to run the OpenVPN server on your router which I use DD-WRT to do.

Wow, nobody has mentioned this, but I used plain old-fashioned VNC, it may not be super flashy and have über security, but it still works

Not a fan of logmein.

I use the standard WM6 RDP application, I have my router set to port-forward 3389 to my desktop, and I use no-ip.com to connect via a free subdomain directly to my dynamic IP address using a tiny applet they provide that informs them every time my IP address changes. Works great.
