Geocaching?

I have a Sprint HTC Touch (Vogue) and, because Sprint is for some reason hiding the details of the ROM update re: RevA and GPS, I decided to buy a bluetooth GPS receiver.

I have never geocached before but my friends say its fun. I have no idea where to start. I bought the bluetooth GPS receiver so I could have standard GPS but also to geocache. My question is, now that I have the receiver (at least ordered) what software do I need for geocaching? Are there any particular programs that people recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Geocaching?

Honestly I wouldnt use the phone as a GPS you will most likely kill your batery. This morning for example I used only txt messageing and wifi for less than half an hour and my battery is down to 70% and it hasnt been off the charger more than three hours. Not only that my Backlight is at the darkest setting my bluetooth is off. Battery sucks on this phone.

Re: Geocaching?

mine has been great so far, sounds like you might have a defective battery or something is draining your power.

Re: Geocaching?

Check out www.BackCountryNavigator.com

It's great for hiking GPS info and I've had a lot of fun using BackCountryNavigator 2 on my PPC6700. It also links you to a geocaching newsletter and all the latest places to hunt for stuff in your neck of the woods.

Re: Geocaching?

i'll have to check that out.

I am just confused. Do I load software such as backcountry navigator onto my phone, go to a geocaching website like geocaching.com, get coordinates for a geocache near me and then plug the coordinates into my phone and go?? what's the procedure?

I need a fun summer hobby!!!

ps: has anyone tried gpstuner? www.gpstuner.com - looks pretty cool. is it the same as backcountry navigator?

thanks in advance.
