JiveTalk Alpha (0.9.0) updated 6/10/08

Beejive has released a test build of JiveTalk, an IM app Blackberry and iPhone users may be familiar with. I've been real pleased with the Blackberry version, it works better than any WM IM app I've used to date. The account list shows it to support AIM, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN, Myspace IM and Yahoo. I use MSN and AIM and don't know or care about the rest, but they're listed so I'd guess they work. Check it out at www.beejive.com.

Wow, I've only been using it for a a few minutes but I am really impressed. It seems like the best client I have used by far.

good looks....im off to try it out since the oz messenger just killed my txt msg

Re: JiveTalk Alpha

Yeah, I'm pretty impressed too. I wrote to note the lack of a scrollbar on the contact list. They replied that it appears when you click on the right side of the list and the list is scrollable like the TouchFlo interface. And so it does...impressive. I'm most interested in seeing how it handles disconnects due to voice calls and the like and hoping it's as solid as it's Blackberry counterpart.

Same here on WM 6.1 Mogul. I am running .net CF 3.5 as well. For those that want to check their .net CF version, browse to your devices \Windows directory and run cgautil.exe. Mine shows 3.5.7283.0

Re: JiveTalk Alpha

LOL...has it occurred to anyone to ask THEM why it doesn't work on WM61? I'd bet it would get more informative results than posting it here for the millionth time.

Anyway to remove that status message it places on AIM? Really annoying since it stays there even when I sign on from my computer?

Re: JiveTalk Alpha

Folks,

For feedback on the JiveTalk build, please shoot an email to winmosupport@beejive.com.

We'll also be monitoring these forums, but an email is usually the best way to get a response from us.

We are aware of the "unable to save log" problem, and are looking into it. Also, if you don't have a standard OS install, make sure you have .NET CF 3.5 and SQL CE installed, though these should all be standard on WinMo Pro 6 or 6.1

Also, the product is in early Alpha, lots of features are still missing and you should expect to encounter some stability issues from time to time.

Thanks,

Kai from Beejive.

Very cool looking program. What sold me were the screenshots. See if you can figure out where you have heard of those contacts before, lol.

hi guys - i downladed the app and it works fine - EXCEPT... i can't type letters - it's as if the shift key is being held down - every time i type a letter -the symbol (if the shift button was actually held down) comes up. for example... if i type the letter Y - or attempt to type it - the number 1 pops up on the screen =/ - i unclicked everything and this wasn't the first time this happened. when i had im plus the same thing happened - the only way i could type was w/ my stylus - using the keypad icon which is VERY time consuming... please help someone! ](*,)

If you're on a UTStarcom 6800, there is a known problem with the firmware on the device related to the hardware keyboard.

UTStarcom has a patch for this here -> http://utstar.com/pcd/downloads/XV68...x%201-9-08.zip

Hope this helps.

Re: JiveTalk Alpha

Tried this program for a couple days now. Absolutely LOVE it, but it certainly CRUSHES your battery. I would normally last about a day and a half to 2 days on a full charge, but while running Jivetalk alone, the phone lasted around 12 hours.

Re: JiveTalk Alpha

This is by FAR the best IM software for Windows Mobile... once you find a ROM that works with it anyway.

Its kind of crappy that this is the only program I've ever heard of that requires SQL CE Mobile, which EVERYONE rips from their ROMs......

EtherealRemnant 03-24-2008 09:20 PM

Re: JiveTalk Alpha

it seems to me that not having it is what causes that error message because I had removed it from DCD's kitchen, got that error, so I built a new ROM with it included and the error went away.

I haven't tried the Touch ROM but I can confirm it works on 5059 for the Mogul...

I get a "log error" message when opening the app and it just terminates

Re: JiveTalk Alpha

Love it !!!
I've used JiveTalk previously on my iPOd Touch and it works great here on the touch
the best thing about it .. is .. when i close the program (Task manager) it still has my name signed on for about 20 mins, in those 20 mins while the program is closed and not running in the background i send myself a couple of messages .. when i opened it again and logged in, i received all those messages

Running a custom rom based on the sprint 3.35 release, WM6. Works great. Prior to this I was using DCD 3.0.1 on WM6.1 and I got the log error message.
