I have tried all the UL Display settings for "colorize background" including the "don't colorize" option. The best I can do is "color 4, blurring 0" which gives me the darkest result, but it's still very washed out.

Is this a problem with UL or is it a problem with Today screen wallpapers? what can I do?

Open the image in the photo viewer, in the menu set to home screen BG, set transparency to zero.
