Try WinVibe 2007. I have it and it sounds the best so far out of WMP, HTC AM, MortPlayer and GS Player. Best part... it's free.

Link here: http://www.freewareppc.com/multimedia/winvibe.shtml

Extra skins here: http://winvibe.tistory.com/category/Skins

The visualizations are terrific and it is LOUD. Has many functions too.

This is a solid program, however I've been unable to have it run in the background, while the device is in sleep mode. Bummer.

Re: Best Media Player

I have run Pocketmusic twice and both times when I was exiting the app, it froze the phone and had to powercycle. Anyone else have this issue?

Re: Best Media Player

for music, you want nitrogen. for video, you want coreplayer. kinoma is alright... just a bit bloated for my taste.

Thanks for the mention! Just FYI, Kinoma Play does support some formats that CorePlayer doesn't. For example, the highest-quality flavors of AAC -- aacPlus and aacPlus v2, a.k.a. HE-AAC and HE-AAC v2 -- are very useful to have IMHO.

BTW, you can now uninstall apps you don't need, and remove apps you'll never use from Kinoma Play's new, customizable Home screen.

For example, if you'll never be sharing favorite music and video links to on Twitter, you can uninstall the Twitter app. (If you ever change your mind, you can re-install in a few seconds.)

Re: Best Media Player

for videos it's a toss up between Coreplayer or TCPMP
for audio I think Nitrogen is my favorite

Re: Best Media Player

The thing that kills Nitrogen for me is lack of playlist support.
