a new feature by verizon [ i believe ] turns your voicemail into text. other carriers are starting to test this feature. they charge per voicemail turned into text.

Go www.youmail.com make account, set up send voicemail mp3 attach to my email then send to you www.mail2web.com free direct push email address,,

Then, install mVisualVoicemail to you phone.

Now you can personalize greeting to each person who call you. And direct push mail to your phone > Visual.

You might check out GrandCentral. It allows for Visual Voicemail through their website using your phone. There is an in-house thread discussing it too.

while I appreciate coz's enthusiasm for grandcentral, it has been closed for some time, and I'm not sure if it will ever be open again as a free service. I do however think you may as well "reserve" a number, if nothing more than s&g. I have been looking at alternatives for this and there are many.
personally I was looking for an all-in-one with 800#(I have a vanity #), exchange hosting, voicemail2email, and eFax. I currently use ringcentral for my eFax, but they don't have exchange. the best option I've found so far is OneBox, they claim direct push exchange, as well as pst import on their executive plan ($17/mo). http://www.onebox.com/products/exec-feat.asp

The problem lies with the cell carriers, as they often charge to fwd to an offsite #.

Re: visual voicemail

I use callwave and have been very happy with it. It looks like they may have started charging (?), but that may just be for the service where they transcribe your messages to text. I've been using it for quite a while now and have not been charged for the answering service which allows me to check my messages online. Also a nice feature is that it will email you the .wav file to listen to on your phone. No more using minutes to check voicemails is a nice thing.

As far as things costing extra through Sprint, double check that. I know that sprint charges for forwarding calls, but not for forwarding on unanswered or forward on busy which is what you want. Again I have had callwave set up which requires that i forward any calls that i don't answer to a separate number, and have not had any problems or extra charges.

I hope this helped. If you have any questions, I'll check back.
