MagiCall 1.2 (Updated): Call Filtering/Blocking (plus SMS)

MagiCall 1.2: Dual-way Call Filtering (plus SMS)

(Note: Version 1.2 FINAL has been released on 12/17)

- Adds ability to add multiple numbers into one rule
- Adds new contacts list dialog and phone logs dialog. These new dialogs give users the ability to select multiple items at one time
- Ability to filter by pocket outlook categories
- Ability to delete and keep/unkeep multiple log items
- Ability to compact and delete log file
- Fix - Fixed issue that causes failure installations
- Fix - Fixed issue about sending SMS
- Fix - Some stability bugs
- Fix - Does not check password when open log viewer from notification window

Finally, for those looking for a call filtering software (that also filters SMS), this is for you.

- Very lite program, don't even notice it is running. No slowdowns.
- SMS filtering even works with Palm Threaded text :)
- Will not interfere with Verichat (SMS)
- Highly configurable yet very intuitive
- It just plain works, which is rare for these programs!
- Scheduler built in: Filter rules can be on a specific time-frame

- $24.95 but worth it if you need it

yeah but people who need this, need it bad.

and I give mad credit to the developer: it's just so elegant and works so well. It's gets an A+ as far as layout and execution.

He's also going to add "reverse number lookup" for calls into the program which I asked him to do (next version though, 1.3 or so), which should be really awesome.

Plus since I beta tested I got a free code.

Zing!

lol, I know you are kidding but to be clear for others: I am not under any obligation to 'spread the word', just test the app.

but when you get prompt replies and interest in your requests from a developer and it works, it does make you want them to succeed a little. I did the same with Storyr.

but full disclosure: i do not get any compensation for posting this!

i tried using this last week and i didn't like it. i use "call sms blocker" and its really cool and its easy to use.

yup I've used that before. blocked my verichat SMS though and found it to be unreliable (plus no trial and no scheduling). This seems to more stable across devices.

wingzero 12-01-2006 12:03 AM

I'd been using it for couple days now and it works pretty well. There's this guy that calls about once a week eventhought I told him a thousand time he called a wrong #. Well guess this will fix him for good.

Hey Mal,

Do you know if there is a CAB installation file for 1.2? I'm at work and want to try the new version out but no Activesync. If not, I'll just wait til I get home. Thanks.

Malatesta 12-04-2006 02:12 PM

doesn't look like there is a .cab and I can't find one under AS for some reason (just the old version with the old dates). i'll try at work later.

Small Request:

Anyone who is using this AND Palm Threaded SMS--

Can you test the "send SMS" as 2nd option for blocked calls?

Mine doesn't work and I and Song (the developer) don't know if it's a Palm Threaded App issue, 1.2 beta issue or just a fluke on my device.

Any experiences with this app are welcomed! tia

Fittske 12-05-2006 05:32 PM

Hey Mal,

Do you know if Magicall will block contacts by Group? I would hate to have to go set up each contact in a particular group one by one in order to block the entire group.

It says this above re: 1.2

- Ability to filter by pocket outlook categories

So I think that is what you want. Not sure as I don't use groups/categories

If not, try it out and drop the developer (Song) a line. He's real good at responding and considering requests, etc. (I'll put their email in the original post above)

Yes it does...I didn't realized Song added this option on 1.2. I've suggested this to him when I beta tested 1.1 but didn't expected it to be on the very next version. :D

Hi friends, I am the developer of MagiCall.
I have updated the beta version, I hope this one resolve the problem about sending SMS.
Please feel free to try. :)

wingzero 12-12-2006 12:39 PM

Thanks mygogo. I am sure this will make Malatesta happy.

wowthatisrandom 12-12-2006 05:05 PM

thanks mygogo glad you found the problem I was havin... thanks for the quick responses glad I could help ;-)...

opu5 12-16-2006 04:26 AM

I tried version 1.1 of MagiCall and found it couldn't do the one thing I needed - forward SMSes which I received to another mobile number.

Currently, it can "send an sms" to another mobile number upon receiving an SMS, but not to fwd the SMS itself.

Can the developer look into providing this functionality?

Thanks,

:)ac

opu5 12-16-2006 05:01 AM

I take back my earlier post - I just found out from the developers' website (and after reading the documentation) that SMS forwarding is possible with the use of the {message} and {phone} wildcards.

my bad....

:)

mygogo 12-17-2006 12:08 PM

Hi all, I have released version 1.2 final.
You can download it from my website:
www.magisoftwarehouse.com/downloads.html

Please feel free to try. 8)

tenthirty2 12-22-2006 12:52 AM

Dude, I was getting bogus restricted calls at 2 am the other night, really ticked me off. I found this app on another site, and now every time I get a call on my 6700 and the caller ID is blocked, it doesn't even RING! Just answers and immediately hangs up on the caller. All they hear is a little click in their earpiece. No more harassing phone calls, they don't even get to leave an obscene message on my voice mail! I'm sold on this app, it should've been built into the operating system anyway.

~KC

Malatesta 01-03-2007 09:42 PM

Update:

There is a small bug for use Palm Threaded SMS users who want to use the SMS/Auto-reply feature for Action 2:

Set the SMS receipt as 123456789 instead of (123)456-789.

The developer will release a patch in the future but this should get around it till then.

chuque 01-14-2007 02:10 AM

I installed this app as a "light" solution that reportedly worked well with phonealarm. and it seems to do that and works well for blocking the one harassing caller I have. However it seem to lock up both memmaid and task manager when they launch or try to get a process list. I have tested by exiting magicall and trying again and everything works as normal.

I went to the magicall website and didn't see a support forum there so I hope this reaches the developer, or maybe someone has seen this issue and has a quick workaround, I am on day 1 of my 7 day trial.

thanks

:dontknow:

I use MemMaid, AE Button Plus w/ Task manager, the standard task manager and the SKTools process viewer, etc. and never had an issue. This is also the 1st I've seen this reported...

Maybe just a fluke on your device?

Could you try this: do a backup w/ whatever you use and hard reset with just installing MagiCall and see if you have any issues? I'm thinking there is definitely a conflict but nothing as simple as 1:1 program.

chuque 01-14-2007 03:00 PM

well I went ahead and and tested this for you, hard reset, installed junkfree extrom, installed memmaid, and magicall 1,2 and am getting the same results. My gut feeling on this is it is a trial Vs registered issue based on the fact you aren't seeing this problem, and the trial period popup I am getting. I am tempted to search the net for a reg code to test my theory as I do like this software but am not willing to pay 25 bucks to test this theory out.

on a side note this is the first time I have used my phone in almost a year w/o all the skins and eyecandy. Man these phones are ugly when stock.

could very well be.

you may also want to contact the developer here (email listed):
http://www.magisoftwarehouse.com/contact.html

and see what he says about the issue.

Hi chuque, I am the developer of MagiCall. After reading your post, I tried to install MemMaid on my device, but I did not meet the same problem. I had tested two version of MemMaid (1.44 and 1.72) on two WM5.0 devices (Treo750v, Wizard). They worked OK.
Could you tell me what device were you using? Have you flashed a modified ROM to it? Thank you.

chuque 01-15-2007 04:19 AM

hey there, I am running, the posted aku 2.2 version on a sprint ppc 6700. with the stock (junkware removed) EXTROM

and while running the trial version of the software that if I try to run either memmaid/processes list or task manager the app, and the OS locks up. demanding a soft reset, if I kill magicall after boot I Can run both just fine, and then launch the magicall, but if I exit either and rerun, same locked up issue.

again my gut feeling is that this has to do with the trial version and wouldn't be an issue once it is registered and not getting the pop-up. but, even in my current drunken state ( excuse the typos) I am not willing to fork over 25 to prove it.

honestly even given the fact that the software works seamlessly with phonealarm ( unlike photo contact pro) I am not sure it is worth 25 bucks. Maybe I'll feel different in a week and the trial expires.

sashamw 01-15-2007 04:23 PM

Hi ... not thinking today

I have a quick question .... prob very dumb and I'll feel like an idiot after I get the answer ........ but ............ let's say I have mine set up to be silent while sleeping. How do I differentiate between am and pm? Military time? I don't see a slot for am or pm. Most of the time I am blind though ... so ....

mygogo 01-15-2007 08:34 PM

Hi chuque, thank you for the information.
There is no difference between the trial version and the registered version except a popup dialog. I guess the problem is caused by some bugs of old OS. I will try to find if there are some similar reports on the internet.

BTW, what version of MemMaid did you use?

mygogo 01-15-2007 10:41 PM

Hi sashamw, I am not sure that I understood your question.
0:00 - 11:59 is AM
12:00 - 23:59 is PM
Suppose you sleep between 11:00pm-7:30am, you may set the interval as "Between 23:00 and 7:30"
Hope my answer can help you.

zenkinz 01-15-2007 11:59 PM

quick question, how can I create a rule for missed call? i.e. I wnat to send out sms for missed call, not all calls or calls that I ignore?

Yes, thank you, that is what I was asking. Since there was no choice of AM or PM I was asking if I should use military time. I don't always write too clearly. Again, thanks! :)

mygogo 01-16-2007 08:19 PM

Hi zenkinz, it has not this feature. But I am working on it.
I will add it to v1.3
