have you tried pressing the power button it shuts off the screen and buttons untill the call ends or you press it again

One feature I sorely wish that the Touch had is the ability to lock the screen from touch input as soon as a call is placed or answered, like the iPhone does. I am hearing impaired and I have to really get the phone close to my ear but unfortunately I've had issues with applets turning on and what not because of my face pressing the screen. Sure, I can lock the screen manually with the long push of the call end button, but that's a little bit of a hassle.

Why don't you just turn the screen off when you get a call? That's what I do. The screen will automatically turn back on when the call has ended.
