Activesync, syncing too often...slow it down?

I like to leave my phone plugged into the laptop since I install lots of programs, send over music/videos and such fairly frequently.

The one thing that bugs the heck out of me is that Activesync runs like every 10-15 minutes. Might not be that much of a problem, but my laptop is old and it slows things down a little bit.

Is there a way to either make it stop auto-syncing or at least make it sync less often?

Scruf,
Maybe you could try the "schedule" selections on the activesync window (on the PC) - change it to once an hour or something rather than "as items arrive".

Historical note: In the early days of PPC/Palm competition, this active monitoring and updating of sync status was pushed as one of the key advantages of PPCs over Palm devices. The scenario was you jump up from your desk to run to an appointment - just grab your already-synced PPC and go; with Palm you had to hit the Hotsync button and wait for all your changes to be updated before leaving.

I would like to try that, but the schedule button is 'grayed' out. No idea why. Any ideas?

According to the help file, scheduling is used for wireless syncing...

Check the Apache section

If you have not found it already, there is a thread in the Apache section, http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11799., by user weedahoe.

Basically if you do not use Activesync to sync wireless sync to an exchange server, you need to configure it like you are going to use it for that, enter a fake IP, username and pass when prompted.

After you set up the fake connection, the schedule menu will no longer be grayed out. Then go into the schedule and select everything to "manual".

This way AS will not start until you launch it. It will still work over USB, BT, IR.
