Frequently Asked Questions

Q:
How is this different/better than Pandora?
A: Pandora allows you to listen to music IT thinks you might like while nanoGroove taps into the extensive online database of Grooveshark to play what YOU KNOW you like.

Q: Is nanoGroove the official Grooveshark application for Windows Mobile.
A: It's such a good app, both functionally and visually that I can see where you would think that. However, nanoGroove is in no way affiliated with Grooveshark.

Q: Where do I go to make playlists I can import into nanoGroove.
A: Visit Grooveshark.com and setup a free account. Once you setup playlists of your favorite music, you can import them into nanoGroove on your phone. Simply press "view" in the bottom right corner of your screen and then select "Playlists" from the pop-up menu. On first use, you will need to enter your Grooveshark login information. Once it logs into your Grooveshark account, press refresh and then select the playlist from the drop down menu.

Q: Okay, so I went and got myself a new Grooveshark account. It's a pretty cool site. I can't believe I have not been using that site everyday! I made some playlists and follow all the steps in your FAQ to get them loaded into nanoGroove but they are not showing up. What did I do wrong?
A: Great! I am glad you are enjoying Grooveshark. I use it myself at home, work and now with nanoGroove I even use it in the car! As for your playlist problem, don't be too concerned about it. You can usually create a playlist and seconds later load that list into nanoGroove. However, it has been reported on occasion that it takes some time to get from Grooveshark to nanoGroove. So just be patient and try it again later.

Q: How many playlists can I load?
A: At the moment, you can only load 10 playlists from Grooveshark. Note that it will only load the first 10 in your list. This limit has been removed in the new patch.

Q: I have a suggestion to improve this application, will my ideas be taken into consideration?
A: Absolutely. Please post any ideas to improve this application in this thread and a compiled list will be passed on to the developer. If you really want to contact nanoGroove yourself, please visit the website linked in post #1. But remember, the more emails he has to read through, the less time he has to implement the ideas you have.

Q: I use the radio feature in Grooveshark that utilizes a Pandora style selection of music for me. Does this work in nanoGroove?
A: It currently does not, but that is a great suggestion I will pass on.

Q: Does my subscription cover the costs of updates?
A: Yes, for that major release. For example, if you purchase v1.x you get all of the updates until v2.0 is released.

Q: nanoGroove stopped working. Is something wrong? What's going on? etc.
A: nanoGroove support has been keeping me updated via email with any major news and/or updates. So far I have been able to pass the information along within minutes to this thread. So unless they catch me sleeping this thread will be the best source of up to date information of what is going on.

***FAQ Section still a work in progress. Please check back for more info.

Some carriers appear to not play nice with this app and/or the Grooveshark stream. Will update this post with more info when I have time. For now, if you are having problems with the stream where it plays a different song than what you had selected, or simply does not play anything at all, please report your carrier name and the country. Just because it is reported working or not for a specific carrier in this list does not mean you will have the same results. This is simply a compilation of reports I have received. If you are using a carrier that is listed as not working, don't be afraid to download anyway and give it a try. If you receive positive results with one of the carriers that are reported not working, please post in this thread.

Quick list:

Working:
USCC - United States
Alltel - United States
Sprint - United States
Verizon - United States

Not working:
Telus - Canada
Vodafone - Holland

Again, I am running out of time at the moment and will revise this post sometime this evening.

Used it, not worth 5 bucks, its full of bugs. Just plain old quits on you... Acts like its playing and isn't. It also has random errors over EVDO connections that their tech support admitted some of them are Grooveshark's fault and nothing they can do. So if there is nothing they can do about errors i'm having. then why would i pay $5?

the app had the potential to be awesome, unfortunately it has a long way to go to get there.

with that said there is already a nanoGroove thread, why start a new one that looks very much like spam? are you pushing their software for them?

Post #3 is going to contain a list of carriers that have been reported to work with nanogroove or not work with it. Apparantly Telus has some issues with nanogroove. MightyMike was the first I saw to report this issue. Again, more info to come on this.

Not sure how this appears to be spam to you. I was in contact with the developer of nanogroove about a few things and in the conversation asked him if he intended on putting up a thread with a FAQ on these forums. He stated he did not have time to do so and encouraged me to do this for him if I were so willing.

works well on alltel....having to build your playlist every time is a hassel...sound quality is very good...radio feature would be nice....having a "save playlist" or "select all" would be a feature I would like to see....overall worth the $5 bucks.

Mike may have issues, but im on telus as well and don't have the same as him. I also get parsing errors even on wifi. These are on Groovesharks end. So then i ask why would i pay $5 for an application that will experience errors on occasion that the application developers cannot take care of?

As for it feeling like spam, i just look at the first post and i hear "Hi Billy Mays here!, Bringing you another great product...." but that's my opinion lol

Maybe if nanoGroove was offering PPCG users a discount on the app or some coupon code then it wouldn't feel so spammy for the advertisement they are getting with this thread. Hook us up with a deal. :P

I don't have the answers to why it may not be working for some carriers, all I can do is post peoples findings of what is working and not working. In fact, I am going to revise post #3 to reflect that. If I get any more information from the developer on this, I will relay the information.

Opinion noted, I'll continue with this thread as my main objective of the thread was to give people a place to go to discuss this application with a running FAQ section. It's an app I enjoy using and as a result of this thread, the developer gets some more exposure.

When the app only costs $5 to begin with, I don't see a need for nanoGroove to offer a PPCG discount but that is just my opinion.

I agree, at least with the question of why start a new thread.? Im sure your intentions were good, but with an already established thread going, you should have maybe posted your info there, or asked the OP to update the first post with the info you shared. These will probably get merged anyway. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the info regardless.

Thanks for the report! I too would like to see those features implemented. Unfortunately, I have no information on whether the developer has these planned for a future release. He does seem to be very open to suggestion as I have already mentioned a couple of ideas to him. Please feel free to keep posting any ideas for improvement in this thread and I will relay them to the developer. As for the radio idea, not all devices have the ability to use that feature and there are plenty of apps available which do this. nanoGroove is designed to tap into the massive library contained in Grooveshark and I don't see this particular feature being implemented but again, I will pass that on.
