such unprofessionalism

I've already posted this at mobilitysite , WMexperts and at xda-developers.com im trying to get as much attention from as many wm users as I can so anyway ive noticed this from a few companies so i thought i would bring it up now, especially since the beejive im review for iPhone article doesnt have the comment board for it enabled so ill post my comment about it and more in a thread anyway, why the h*** would a software developer stop developing an IM program that could have such potential and leaving it buggy to the point that its nearly unusable (i cant even login without it crashing)this is what they did to the windows mobile version and i think its really unfair all the while the iPhone version is nice and complete and stable, how dare they do this?desgraciados!! and yeah ive already sent them an email with my piece of mind, ive also noticed this with vonage there is an iPhone and bb app fro it but no winmo version, im sick of these software developers leaving winmo out in the dust it is so unprofessional, luckly for wm phones skype is better and cheaper than vonage so this isnt an issue. any thoughts?

Re: such unprofessionalism

this is what i hate about winmo, and its not really winmo itself, more of its support from professional devvelopers. what really got me fueled was pandora. they have apps for all other mobile os's. and when i questioned them about winmo (for newer phones that is) they said they were no longer going to support it as they felt it was not benefical. everyone is in it for the money. problem with winmo is that there are so many damn phones, all with different specs, screen sizes, os versions and so on. i really hope wm7 solves this issue. if it does not, then sadly i will try a new os starting with an a and ending in ndroid

Re: such unprofessionalism

You call it unprofessionalism but it's really all about money and resources.

They put their money and resouces where they feel that will benefit them the most from a financial standpoint. Sounds cruel but that is just the real world and how the free market works.

Re: such unprofessionalism

It comes down to dollars. iphone users are conditioned to cough up dough for everything and they see the WinMo market as much less profitable. They won't invest in development unless they feel they will get a good return on the effort.

Re: such unprofessionalism

there's no explanation for the software developers that create free applications to be intentionally leaving out windows mobile now that is really unfair. desgraciados!!! and it is true that iPhoners will pay for anything as they're already paying a $150 a month phone bill but they shouldn't be getting preferential treatment. desgraciados

From what i know its cheaper to have an app in iphone app store, more resources for development, iphone supports ads in apps nativly giving the free apps their profit.
It is complete BS, but with so many varying phone specs in WM is difficult. I really wish this wasnt the case. WM7 has a requirement for resolution processors etc which will help greatly, wvga or greater, hardware acceleration, 1GHz processor etc.

That is true, however as the OP said it gets ridiculous when the apps or free. Pandora is free as far as I know so there arguement doesn't hold water. I use Mint. They have an Iphone app. It's free so however they're making money off of that they can from WM. They are people that make programs on the weekend and have no trouble getting them to work for various WM phone. Droid has the same issues with various hardware and OS versions so that cannot be used as an excuse.

Re: such unprofessionalism

Not sure what to tell you. I saw some GPS apps abandon the WinMo line and continue to support the iphone platform. Garmin for example now makes a phone that they market to compete in the WinMo market so they are trying the exclusivity angle that iphone used. And oddly enough, they are rushing into the Android market now too.

Yes, the lack of standardization of hardware, phone/data plan and varying performance from phone to phone is an issue too. How do you support when you have people complaining that the turn by turn spoken directions don't work on phone X? It is a challenge.

Free apps are something else. Often you have a motivated developer who wants to fill a need on a chosen platform and they have the skills to make it happen. They bang out something and it ends up as resume rodder, maybe gets published, maybe draws more people to the project and things run from there.

Different things motivate developers, money usually being the biggest. If they are successful on one platform they are dedicated to, sure, it would be great to spread to others.. if they can/want to. If they don't have anyone to work on platform X, they simply can't though. If lobbying them for a WinMo version gets you nowhere, see if they will share the source code. You can always try to learn to program, and work on it too. Never know, you may get a job out of it if you are good.
