Android is still a fledgling OS and there is no doubt about it. Someone described the overall user experience on Android as "fragmented" and I couldn't agree more. It's coming along extremely fast though and I'm sure that soon enough I'll be switching over, it's just a matter of time. I doubt WinMo 7 is going to do anything to shake this up unfortunately. In the meantime though, WinMo is doing it for me more than the vanilla 2.1 Android. I predict that my if in a few months there comes along a Snapdragon Android handset with similar form factor like the N1 with Sense built in to it and a few versions further of Android, my upcoming HD2 will probably get traded in. This should be no later than the end of 2010. The voice input on Android 2.1 is bar none though.. Now I know why they started testing voice transcriptions on GVoice so long ago and asking our input on when it was useful and when it wasn't. Good game Google! |
Re: Proper Speech to Text in ALL text fields
I desperately need for a solid dictation app to be pushed out for winmo and preferably free... it really is a no brainer that this is missing from winmo's feature set

I'm sure with Sense, it has most of the fit and finish of TouchFLO/Manila etc. Here are some questions though: -Does it sync properly with Exchange (email, calendar, tasks) while still supporting sync with the Google cloud? -Does it sync directly with Outlook? I think this is a no. -Does it do WinMo style smart dial from the dialer where you can bring up the dialpad and just use that to start typing the letters of your contact's name and it finds them intelligently? -Is there support for text message scheduling? Or an app for this? -Is there support for backing up text messages to PC for plain text reading? Or just plain backup even? If the answer to most of these is yes, then I just might consider giving skipping over the HD2 I've been waiting for and give Android a longer shot. The only other problem is pretty basic apps without much attention to UI etc, but that should be picking up pretty rapidly with Android hopefully. |
Re: Proper Speech to Text in ALL text fields
is it 100% certain that this speech to text feature is in fact native to android 2.1 and not just on the nexus one?
