It's not so much a "louder" hack as a "quality" hack.

The title should be corrected.

It uses less compression on the voice signal, giving better quality.

I did this like 6 months ago, but I think I need my MSL code to do it.

EVRC is "Enhanced Variable Rate CODEC".
It enables a lower bitrate (bandwidth) while still mainting voice quality (full rate at 8.5 kbps, half rate at 4 kbps, and eighth rate at 800 bps) The setting we changed "forces" it to 13kbps. Both Verizon and Sprint use this codec.
