so I guess I don't hav e push email then. reception is excellent but its always been that way. 20 percent now---12pm
|
1pm phone on charger. toal bs. any other suggestions on anything I could check?
|
What are your backlight setting? Have you tried talking to Sprint about a replacement battery? This does not sound normal.
|
this is a whole new phone. I swapped it last week for the same reason thinking that maybe it was a bad phone. I even got a new batt as well. since last post I tried calling cust service again, sat on hold for 15 minutes, charge was at 40 perc from charger then dropped to 10 as I was on phone. an alert popped up saying batt low blahhh blahh. phone on charger now as I type this phone gets hot just sitting still and really hot when I use it. its to the point im afraid to use it for anything.
|
Not sure what else to say....
|
4pm...swapped battery for new one at store. initial charge is 60 perc and they said don't charge it until I get home and use home charger overnight, which is what I've always done anyway. I asked them what would cause this much batt loss, they said internet usage, and all pdas drain batt from just being connected to network. that's crap if you ask me. why have a phone that's going to keep dying on you with normal use---why be strapped to a charger all the time? oh well, lets see how this one does. I have 5 days left till I can return this thing unless a different battery soloution can be found
|
i noticed a couple of days ago that my battery died super fast like yours. I had all the programs closed but for some reason my 10button comm manager from the kaiser said there was a data connection when i taped it to close it the battery would not drain as fast and now it hasnt done it for a couple of days. Wonder if the problem is related?
|
I have the Kaiser 10 button Comm Manager and I haven't had any battery drain problems...
|
I dont think the problems from the comm manager but the fact that sometimes all programs are closed and it wont drop the data connection till i turn it off from the comm manager
|

whats a kaiser 10 button? |
man what a day from hell it was with that !!@##$!!! phone. i was 2 seconds from throwing it against the windshield. I cant believe the battery drain it took and if read the previous posts from today, you can see the timeline.
i dont know what or why the problem happened. ive read through all these forums to see if theres anything i could do to check the phone if its a problem on my end, but pretty much i have it done. one thing tho, should i have the data connection turned off until i need it? on the mogul, on the right side of the phone theres 2 buttons, one dims the backlight and the other opens up a settings like thing that you can turn off bt, airplane mode, the phone, etc. one is data connection which is always on. maybe i should disable that? would that make a difference? i have to leave bt on because since im on the road all day i cant drive and hold the phone. |
Jesus christ I just can't kill this thing!
I've done the tweaks in this thread as well as turning the backlight down to the lowest setting... I charged it fully last night and took it off the charger at 11PM... its now 24 hours later and I'm at 30% battery life, even after turning bluetooth on and downloading a 90MB file from the Microsoft FTP twice on wifi. About to start the third round now. I want to drain it completely so I can calibrate it... 3 full charge/discharge cycles... but lord this thing has some good battery life... I don't know if I'm patient enough to do this every day!! I've made about 1 1/2 hours worth of calls, browsed on EVDO for over 4 hours... what does it take to kill the battery on this phone? LMAO |

Not at all.
It was my first full charge I've had on the thing and I'm amazed at the battery life on it. I really don't care if you believe me or not but in the end, it took 8 rounds of the 90MB file on Microsoft's FTP to kill the battery plus the wifi set to maximum performance, with the backlight turned on the highest setting and set to not turn off around the 6th round. Once I started going nuts with the wifi, the 30% that was left only took about 30 minutes or so to drain completely. So that's how I'll kill the battery for the next two nights. Since you don't seem to believe me, here's the file on Microsoft's FTP that I downloaded to the storage card in Opera, waited until it saved it (that step takes about a minute of spinner action), then hit retransfer and repeated until it died: ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Products/Win...e/007_LOGO.EPS :P |
my phone dies in like 3 or 4 hours without charging.
|
MogulUser2,
Have you run acbPowerMeter? http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...=acbPowerMeter Definitely useful for examining power usage on the Apache. Haven't seen whether it works on Mogul though. |
maybe I sbould give remnant my phone and see how well he does. he says his phone won't die? well whatever I guess, he must be one of the lucky ones. mine looses just sitting still with no usage. sprint is sending me an extended battery that's supposed to be double power. I guess we'll see. as far as im concerned this pos is going back and ill just jump back on my old nextell. this thing is supposed to have all these features but if you have to turn off this and that and disable shit, then why have it?
|
Quote:
If so, you need a new battery. That or you haven't been charging it properly. |
exactly what registry hacks remnant? you mean the battery hack? and wifi, how do you turn that off? and the beams, just the unchecked box in connections means beams off? are you sure your phone wasn't plugged in while you were doing all that stuff?
|
Quote:
Of course it wasn't plugged in! I turned the wifi switch on the phone to off... I did the 4 reg hacks in this very thread (setting all values listed to 0 - there's 4 of them). Yes, the unchecked box in connections means beams are off. The main drain on the phone IMO is the LCD brightness and the time before the phone's LCD light goes off. I don't take mine off 30 seconds. |
well so much for the extended battery!! charged it overnight with phone off, off charger this morning at 8am. had a 20 minute phone call, made sure backlight is off, and now at 9am its already at 80 percent, probably lower since im on here. what a pos.
|
Might be the charger...

 |
im using the charger that came with the phone in the box
|
Replace the phone.
Its obviously defective if two different batteries are exhibiting the same poor battery life. Its refurb time for you man, sorry to say. |
maybe you haven't been following along the whole thread remnant, but this is a new phone I swapped out last saturday, not even a week old. before that I swapped out two batteries as well on the first phone and now two on this phone making it 4 new batts. total. I find it hard to believe that 2 brand new phones and 4 brand new batteries are all defective. I even have the extended battery on here and I see no difference from standard battery. after a 5 min. or so phone call theres at least a 10% batt loss and godforbid I go on internet. everythings turned off that can be, hacks are in place, hell whatever else. im just not having any luck with this shit phone. where i used to worry when being on phone with outgoing calls about minutes used, im now more worried if the phones going to die or or not. how do you people stand it? is this how all pda's are? sure remnant, you might have the holy grail of mogul's, super duper battery life, blahh blahh...but you must be the one and only person who is because on other sites such as this, everyone, and i mean EVERYONE, is having crap battery life. so count yourself lucky.
as for me, my pos is going back tomorrow--permanently. |
Are you fully charging and discharging the phone?
It seems odd to me that you're having so many problems. And no, I'm not the only one claiming excellent battery life, read up some more. But yeah, I'm running Windows Mobile 5. Don't know if that's making a difference in the battery life. I didn't even run WM6 for a full day before I dumped it and went back to 5... |
Quote:
but what do you mean about discharging? i thought you wasnt supposed to let it die all the way down? |
MogulUser2,
I may have missed this in the thread, so I apologize in advance..... Are you running the stock Sprint ROM? If not, I would suggest reflashing to the stock ROM and see if that is still causing your problems. If it is, that would mean either you are getting a series of bad batteries or, as Remnant previously said, even if it's a new phone it's a bad one. If your battery woes don't show up in the stock ROM, that means something in your custom ROM is causing a severe battery drain (bad registry entry or program). It would most likely be caused by a program that is accessing EVDO constantly....I know this happened when the WeatherPanel server was shut down for a brief time. The program was constantly trying to phone home over EVDO, causing a significant battery drain. Just my .02..... |
ok how do interest check the rom? keep in mind this my first ever pda type phone and I have n.o idea bow to check the things like rom. also do you think that thhings like the perastats application ad custom themes may be doing it? wouldn't the running theme be causing sometbing maybe since its showing a big clock and other application icons?
|
regarding last post, im on phone posting that and inadvertently must of hit oher keys, but I meant to say how do I check the rom, not interest. also its things, not thhingss lol it won't let me edit so I posted this subpost
|
I disagree with anyone who says a full charge/discharge is bad. I've never had a problem doing this and in your case, it couldn't really hurt.
Reflash the device with the stock Sprint ROM off of HTC's site and don't install any custom things. Just do these tweaks. Then drain the battery 100% until it shuts itself off, charge it 12 hours, then try it... you may just fix the problem. |
Quote:
i went there, if thats the right place, and no moguls listed. everything but |
Here you go Mogul -- http://www.america.htc.com/support/m...downloads.html
There is some good info on how to check your ROM version....I highly suggest printing the page and keep it next to you as you reflash your ROM. As Remnant and I suggested, don't install any 3rd-party apps and see what happens w/ your battery life. Keep us up to date..... |
well, another day of dissapointment for my mogul. keep in mind, i have the so called extended battery. after a full night's charge, at 8am it was at 100 percent. didnt use the phone at all until around 11am or so when i went on pdaphonehome.com and posted onto a thread i have there also. when i was done, the phone was at 80percent, 20% lower just from being on the site. as the day went on, i hardly used the phone for fear of loosing yet more power, which is F'king pathetic. I did make a few calls here and there, only lasting about 2 mins or so. around 1pm, the phone was at 60%, just sitting. did a bit of looking on this site to see if there was a reply to my earlier post, did the same thing on the other site where i have posts as well concerning batt. life, and phone was at 50% around 430 ish or so. didnt use the phone at all until---after 6 pm which is when i get free outgoing call minutes. ON purpose, i made a call that lasted 32 minutes. naturally, the phone got hot--not sure if thats normal either, and when the call was done, phone was at 20 percent. made another call after that, and seven minutes into the call---boom, phone went completely dead.
so much for the extended battery. i thought today was the last day i had to turn in the phone under my 30 day period, but i have until tomorrow. i did go into sprint AGAIN, where they know me on a first name basis by now, and i was going to swap out for a entirely different phone. they again offered to swap for a new mogul which would be my third one now. I kept the one i had in an effort to see if i can still try to salvage it and figure out whatever it is thats draining battery. so i dont know, i guess this phone isnt going to work for me. i dont know what else to do. TOMORROW IS THE ABSOLOUTLY LAST DAY I HAVE TO EITHER CANCEL SERVICE, OR EXCHANGE THE PHONE. I do hope someone responds-- you've all been very helpful and i hope that in the next 12hours or so from now (10 pm eastern now) i can find a good solution. i have to make a choice tomorrow, either get another new mogul, or go back to a standard flip phone :-( im for getting another new one, but if the previous 2 had problems, i dont see how a 3rd wont. |

It's good they're giving you a new one. Don't install anything on it and see what happens. BTW, which programs did you install on the previous ones? Also, did you set it up so you get your email over it (POP or Exchange)?
Just trying to see if a program is causing the problem. If you set up an email account, there's the option about how often it checks the server for mail.....it may be set too low, so Activesync is constantly connecting. |
well for what its worth, Its gone---the mogul has returned to the cellphone boneyard of oblivion!
took it back to sprint, they offered me yet a 3rd mogul, but why put up with the same issues all over again? was not to be i guess. anyway, dont laugh but i "downgraded" as you might see it, to a flip phone--the new razor 2. one good thing though, i havnt charged it yet and its been on since saturday morning and its now sunday 10pm. ive talked alot, did some texting, a bit of websurfing for what the phone can offer, and i still have a full charge. the bluetooth is loud and clear and the range is outstanding, oh and by the way, bluetooth being on all day as well. not as technical as the mogul, but oh well. i want to thank those who helped try to solve the problems ive had. i appreciate your time and efforts and advice in trying to resolve my issues. i guess it just wasnt in the cards for me this time :-) |
Just for what it's worth (though I see the OP has moved on to a different phone)...
I saw the reference to acbPowerMeter above and I can say that it works great on the Mogul (I have an Alltel 6800 - same phone). You can get it at http://www.acbpocketsoft.com/Product...verview-2.html. To do a good test, make sure that the backlight is set to turn off after 10 seconds and that the power is not set to turn off (so the phone stays on but the backlight goes off... hope I explained that right). Then, run acbPowerMeter and let the phone sit for an hour. My 6800 averages a draw of about 50mA per hour (it idles at about 30mA, but I have it checking a couple of IMAP mail accounts every 15 minutes and updating WeatherPanel once an hour) which works out to about 30 hours on a charge if I'm not doing anything with it. Not too bad... way better than my 6700 ever was. And that;s with the hack to keep EvDO always connected. So, if anyone else is still having battery problems, I'd run the test I described. If you are drawing a lot more power at idle, then something is running on your phone which is eating your battery. I'd also suggest DotFred's Task Manager (http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?soft=1612) to see what all the running processes are. |
