Start > Settings > Personal > Sounds & Notifications applet > Notifications tab

One of the drop-downs is for displaying when you connect to the Internet, you can uncheck the boxes for this event as well as any others that pop-up with a notification.

some time it the simple ones that are the hardest to figure out...

i for the life of me couldn't get that one either...
