thats pretty sweet, Id drop the shortcut spots to 8 and go with it.

you think?? I was thinking of going 12 cause the 16 seems like way too many IMO, but i dont know about 8, that's look weird to me. Maybe 9, 3 rows, 3 columns, nicely spaced out

that would work. I just know you mentioned not wanting to clutter the home screen. I thought that would be the best way to avoid that. 16 makes it look cluttered.

but its only when you click on the button. If you wanted it clean you'd keep them hidden. but yea i do understand, some people like to keep icons on the screen

What about 3 rows of 4? 12 total. You mentioned it earlier. It could work.

I think it's better with the clean screen and if that's your preference I'd stick with it. Realistically everyone wants something a little different.

I'm sure quite a few people would be happy with the minimalist standard anyways. Anyone else can modify it accordingly if they -really- want.
