Is there a particular size or resolution the image has to be before it can be cabbed? I see a lot of Ghost Rider pics on the web but don't know what if any requirements there are for a theme to be generated...

The image size for panoramics is 1536 x 512. It is best to have an image that is close to this size. For example a 1440 x 900 would work. You can crop a little and resize accordingly. If the size it too small, it will look distorted and pixelated when you upsize it.
