Talking Re: WM6.5 for Sprint Mogul Build 21815 *UPDATE*

ok, so Ive had WM PPC for a few years now. Ive loved it to death (literally a couple of times) and have enjoyed all the customisations that sites like this offer.

But for the bloody life of me I cannot understand if this ROM will run too slow on my Sprint Mogul HTC 6800.

Im not too much of a n00b when it comes to this phone, yet I have never attempted a full upgrade like this one. I really want the new 6.5 (basically Im bored with 6.1), but Im worried that it will slow my phones roll too much.

Any advice? I freaking adore this site btw; its like the family members I never had providing the answers I always wanted to the questions I never thought to ask. Without awkward dinner conversation.

I'm running the high memory version (with camera), and I have had it up for 3 days without a reset, and I'm staying around 15-16 mb of free memory. This runs the same, or slightly better, than 6.1. Like I have mentioned in my previous posts, I wouldn't recommend running the lock screen, as it seems to be a memory hog. I ran it for 3 hours with the lock screen on, and my 15-16 mb went down to less than 9, and I couldn't even open internet explorer. Make the switch. You will be glad you did, and kicking yourself for not switching sooner.

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback.

Youre gonna have o forgive for my next question, cos Ive been following this thread for a week, re-reading the posts over and over again until my coffee tasted like cloud-bunnies (don't ask).

ahem, anyway; Im not getting this whole high/low memory didgereedoo thingy. Are there two different ROM's to download or is it a high/low setting when I flash it on to my phone?

Excuse my ignorance. Im tired and working :P

There is an option to run the high mem, or the low mem. It defaults to high mem, but you can change it by going to Start/Settings/System/Kernel, and selecting the appropriate kernel.

Re: WM6.5 for Sprint Mogul Build 21815 *UPDATE*

okay, i guess I am as big a n00b as I thought I wasn't

once I unlock my phone, whats the process of putting the new ROM on there? does it run automatically from an SD card if I download it there or do I set it up whilst connected to my lappy?

Ive never flashed a ROM before and am v.nervous. Especially since I use a tethering service for internet at work; super scared it's not gonna work once ive fiddled with all this stuff.

Again, apologies for lack of knowledge on this subject. When it comes to my ppc, Im fairly nervous when it comes to changing things that involve hard-resetting.

The search option is your friend, but here is what I did. I have the rom update utility (the link I used to download the file is now dead, but if you search, you should be able to find one), it will/could have several files in it, including romupdateutility.exe, or something similiar. Just place the signed_ruu.nbh file that you downloaded in the folder with the romupdateutility.exe file, and run it (you may need to overwrite the signed_ruu.nbh file already in the folder). Make sure your phone is connected via active sync when you run the executable to update the rom. Then, just sit back and watch as the process runs. I'll see about uploading the rom update utility I used, so it can be downloaded (it's about 60 mb, as it contains a rom...21501, I think).

When I upload the files, I will post back here. It's really easy...don't sweat it. I used a laptop, that way, if the power went out, I didn't have to worry about the update process stopping, and potentially bricking the phone.

Re: WM6.5 for Sprint Mogul Build 21815 *UPDATE*

Anybody having trouble with text messages? Everything was fine at first, but then I stopped receiving notifications, both audio and pop up displays. Then my text count was messed up, sometimes showing zero texts. Then my text count was right, but no texts or only some were visible. Only one threaded conversation was showing even though I had four or five. I switched to the standard text and all the messages appeared. I read a few messages and the text count changed accordingly.

I went back to threaded text and still only one conversation was showing. I deleted the one converation but the text count didn't change. Went back to standard text and the texts from the deleted conversation were still there. Went back to threaded text, no conversations shown. I tried soft resets, nothing changed. Sometimes I'll receive a text notification. Sometimes I'll just get an audio notification.

I know about past issues with stuck text counts, but I don't remember seeing the problem with WM 6.5 ROMs. This is a little different than the previous stuck text count issue so I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or a fix before I try a hard reset.

Edit: I don't know what the problem was, but a hard reset fixed it.

Make sure you unlock your phone prior to installing any roms on this site.

As promised, download the attached .rar file (you will need winrar, or other rar program to open this file). Once you have extracted the files to your hard drive on your computer (it will default to PDAJ's Clean WM6.5 Titan Sprint), download one of the rom files, such as the one in the beginning of this thread (after extracting the rom from the .zip/.rar file, it should have a .nbh extension), and put that file in the PDAJ's Clean WM6.5 Titan Sprint folder. This may be unnecessary, but rename the file to RUU_signed.nbh. Attach your phone to the computer, and let active sync make a connection. Run the RunUpdateUtility.exe file, and follow the on screen instructions, on both the computer screen, and the phone. Enjoy.

Re: WM6.5 for Sprint Mogul Build 21815 *UPDATE*

Ok, Id like to give a huge thanks to tokuzumi and jmartin72 for helping me out with this unlocking/flashing thingymajiggery and for providing the new ROM Ive had my 6800 for a long time now and i REFUSE to upgrade to some buggered up new model thats trying to be an iPhone (plus my contract does not get renewed for another year

Their help was invaluable, and I could not be happier with my new WM 6.5 ROM. The Sprint Tech support dude is a fool for not helping me weeks ago :P

Again, I love this site which is an amazing utility and community for silly foreigners like myself who refuse to settle for the ignorance that was bestwoed upon them by genetics and natural substances. Besides, this site is WAY more polite than other PPC forums out there. People can be so mean...

I love/appreciate you all, and Im gonna go through and "Thanks" as many people as deserve it...
