Is hacking the registry still required for Sprint Mogul/Titan tethering SERO

Hello,

I searched the Sprint ~ Mogul/Titan 6800 upgrades forum and really couldn't find
any conclusive, although plentiful, answers or instructions/guidelines which
I should follow NOW to fix my issue(s). So here goes and I deeply
apologize if this posting is repulsive or too redundant.

Phone: Sprint HTC Mogul/TItan 6800
ROM: 3.56.651.0 - HTC stock
Radio: 3.42.02
OS: WM 6.1
Sprint Plan: Simply Everything you've got in your wallet - unlimited $99+
Storage card: 4 GB Kingston

Downloaded Apps:
Skyfire
Opera Mini
NFL Mobile Live

Downloaded customizing files:
Ringtones
Wallpapers

I read somewhere earlier that when we upgraded to WM 6.1 that Sprint
changed the setting that allowed tethering so we pay extra even though
we payed for 'unlimited' data and minutes on the deluxe SEP plan.

I also remember the best way to tether was to select a setting, then open
the phone IE browser, and then hook up the laptop via the supplied mini
USB cable.

Question 1) Do we still need to hack the registry to avoid additional over charging?
I don't consider the latter stealing if necessary.

Question 2) What's the best clear post with instructions for that task?

I really appreciate any time and or effort anyone puts into my Moguls issues. And I regret any frustration.

I also notice that in > internet sharing there are two selections,
> USB
> Bluetooth PAN

So do I still need to change registry setting to select Sprint PCS instead of getting Phone As Modem
for better service and no over charging?

Cheers

Re: Is hqcking the registry required for good Mogul/TIan tethering through Sprint SEP

I've got a HTC Mogul on the way and I'm curious about this as well. Even though I'm such a noob I'll probaly screw up the phone the first time I try messing with it.

Re: Is hacking the registry still required for Sprint Mogul/Titan tethering SERO

Okay, found these instructions to do the actual tethering; I'll find the
registry edit instructions or a cab file to change registry settings for those
Sprint~Mogul/Titan phones that upgraded to 6.1 and 3.56 stock ROM and
post those processes as I search and find them:
  1. Have Your Computer, HTC Mogul, and USB to MiniUSB Cable handy.
  2. Make sure internet connection sharing is not running on your Mogul
  3. NO USB Cable is plugged into the Mogul
  4. Open Internet Explorer on the Mogul
  5. With the web page running, open the start menu and run Internet Connection Sharing
  6. Ensure "Network Connection" is set to "Sprint PCS"
  7. Select "Connect"
  8. Connect your Mogul and laptop using the USB Cable
  9. Allow windows to automatically detect and install the appropriate driver software
  10. Browse the web and enjoy!

Re: Is hacking the registry still required for Sprint Mogul/Titan tethering SERO

I have a Mogul and have not yet upgraded to WM6.1. My ROM version is still 2.17.651.0. I am only paying $15 a month for unlimited data. I am hesitant to upgrade because I have no problem tethering my phone and I do not want to lose that capability. However,I would like to have a faster connection and the use of GPS without adding any cost to my plan.
Can I have it both ways, upgrading without losing connection (tethering)?

Re: Is hacking the registry still required for Sprint Mogul/Titan tethering SERO

if you search tethering, you will find a lot of information. You can do it, but the newest plans from sprint usually prohibit tethering unless you have a PAM plan added to it.

Please please please search well before you post. I just answered another question like this one not 10 mintues ago and i originally found my answer on the touch pro essentials thread back in december...

Re: Is hacking the registry still required for Sprint Mogul/Titan tethering SERO

Just get PHM Regedit (free) and delete the following entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Comm > Internet Sharing > (I believe it was the rilphone.dll or ril2phone.dll)

Tether away or put on any custom rom. Almost everyone removes this entry.
