White opaque layer on top of Today screen background image

Hello,

I searched the Mogul/TItan 6800 upgrades forum and really couldn't find
any conclusive enough answers or instructions/guidelines to fix my
issue(s). So here goes and I deeply apologize if this posting is repulsive or too redundant.

Phone: Sprint HTC Mogul/TItan 6800
ROM: 3.56.651.0 - HTC stock
Radio: 3.42.02
OS: WM 6.1
Sprint Plan: Simply Everything you've got in your wallet - unlimited
Storage card: 4 GB Kingston

Downloaded Apps:
Skyfire
Opera Mini
NFL Mobile Live

Downloaded customizing files:
Ringtones
Wallpapers

Ok, I've had the Mogul since summer 2008 at which time my Nextel
hockey puck fell out my jacket in the back of a cab. I've read postings on
this forum since then also to learn about the phone and how I can
customized the device to my liking; although I haven't tried any of the
software/techniques available from this website; yet.

I downloaded quite a few ringtones this weekend while watching football to
start personalizing my contacts' rings for my amusement and to their
detriment. }:->

Then I decided to get real bold and download a couple of wallpapers from
the same site to change the background image on the Today screen even
though the six default themes supplied by the manufacturer are breath
taking to look at all times.

Unfortunately, I did not anticipate that there still is a theme
selected/required and although I have a new background image there now,
it has a white film-like opaque layer over it which takes away from the
image and makes the white text of the default themes hard to read, all
except for the black text of the Sprint theme. It would be nice, and less
ghetto, if I could get the opaque layer removed or cleared.

Question 1: Is there a setting in the registry I can hack/change to fix the
issue? Or do I need to create a theme to use the image properly?

Question 2: Related - I've read some posts about registry editors, however,
I can't decide which one to use ~ what registry editor is straight forward to
use, reliable, readable, and hopefully freeware? Although I would pay if
that editor is that necessary.

Question 2.1: I saw a post for a theme tutorial for WM5/6. Have things
changed for 6.1 and what post or software should I use to make the theme
for the wallpaper if necessary?

NOTE: I am a web developer and software engineer. However, some of the
postings confused me a bit when trying to figure out how to open the
registry and change values. It's easy on a laptop or PC and have done the
latter for years.

Question 4: Which post clearly instructs all the steps to hacking the WM
6.1 registry?

Postlog: I really appreciate any time and or effort anyone puts into helping
me out with my Mogul issues, now and in the future. I also regret any
frustration or anxiety I caused.

Cheers

welcome to the white spot club..Although I don't recall any member describing the white spot as you have. It is a known factory issue ith the Titan for white spots to appear on the screen. I guess some are more noticable then others but most titan owners experience them at one point or another. One note though try using dark images. It appears to fade with images dark in nature.

Re: White opaque layer on top of Today screen background image

Great, so not selecting an image as background through the >settings>today
and checking >use image then >browse does not offer the transparency
setting, but not checking the box then selecting the image from file explorer
>my pictures and in the menu
>set as background brings up the transparency setting which was at 65%
and is now 0 and looking sweet.

Thank you all for the excellent help.
