Puzzled with GPS...

Hey all. I'm sure that this has been answered in another post somewhere. However, searching for GPS on this site will bring up thousands of results that would take days to sort through. So, here's the specs:

Bootloader: Oli 2.4
Radio: 3.42.50
Rom: Kitchen 20755

I've installed everything the standard kitchening way and saw somewhere that all that is needed to use GPS was a primer, which I have. GPS doesn't work though. I use HTC GPS Tool and get the same 5 NMEA lines repeated over and over. My Bluetooth unit shows many unique lines so I know the program works. I had it working with MR1 for Verizon with Skywings fix so I know it works. What do I have to do to the kitchen? Anyone?

Re: Puzzled with GPS...

GPS on the mogul is kinda like black magic. Its there but its not there.

True the GPS has to be primed. I used to use Baf's GPS toggle before I was running TF2D, my GPS at the time was iGo8. I have since started using the newest Sprint Navigation and got sprint to lower my bill and add unlimited data and text and running nuerom3. Not sure what did it but I havent used GPS toggle in a while and I get an almost instant lock. I actually locked 11 satellites in less than 10 seconds the other day when playing golf. I use FreeCaddie for a rangefinder which by the way works excellent. Its really like its supposed to have GPS lol

Are you trying to get a lock inside? Also if you have the data off on the phone (either switch or using NoData) will make the GPS not lock or take an extremely long time to lock no matter if you are priming the GPS. That tripped me up before since I didnt have a data plan on my phone and always used NoData with data turned off and kept the switch on wifi.

Ive tried the HTC GPS tool and it didnt seem to work. I have used and can say that Baf's GPS Toggle and Holux GPS viewer work. Though the Holux one take alot more precious memory away from the mogul.

HTC GPS viewer works fine for me (so did GPS toggle, but after the agps updates I no longer needed it). I have a verizon 6800 running nueROM3.

I just updated my PRI to 2.03 yesterday & on my way to work this morning it actually gave me a 12 satellite lock at one point (I have used gps/nav units for years & have never seen that many sats lock at once before). My gps worked fine with the older 1.35 PRI also, but this is definitely better.

Did you relock your phone after flashing the MR1 update.

Re: Puzzled with GPS...

K. I've done that aGPS update. It didn't work for me. I had to reflash because when I cooked my last rom, I forgot to hard-reset my phone and it became extremely slow. So, maybe I'll give it a shot again today and see what happens. And yes, I have PRI 2.03. I've also known about needing a data connection, but with MR1, it seemed to not make much difference as I still got locks relatively fast, but I was connected to WiFi (maybe it worked then).

Didn't know you had to relock it. None of the instructions (to make sure I didn't forget something) mentioned relocking. Anyway, why would you? You'll just need to unlock it again next week to reflash something.

Re: Puzzled with GPS...

I had the same problem. Relocking and loading the pre MR1 rom was the fix for me.

Good luck.

Re: Puzzled with GPS...

see...this thread gives me pause....I just got a new 6800 that already has the MR1 on it. I unlocked the phone (bootloader 2.47), but I'm not sure if I can just put a custom rom on there now.

I posted a new thread already asking this exact question because I've seen some say the MR1 is the kiss of death and others saying that they have no problems. Do I have to roll back to an earlier rom/PRI first now that the phone is unloacked?

Re: Puzzled with GPS...

I also have the VZW XV6800.

When I got my phone the first thing I did was flash to the MR1 rom and I had no problem getting the GPS to work with the install of one .CAB But I never got the Internet Connection Sharing working. I find that I use that more than the GPS working behind the corp firewall. So I set out to find rom that alowed easier use of ICS but I then could not get the GPS working again... I am using a custon NueRom. I also have admittatlly kinda chalked it up to the game, i really liked having the GPS for the week or so that i had it but once i get the phone the way i like it I'll try and focus on getting the GPS working again.
