Internet capabilities limited??

I just bought the 6800 this weekend. I can get into my hotmail account but can't open up any mail. No error messages appear, just loads up the same page over and over again. The sales guy at Alltel said this is like a mini laptop and I should be able to do my online classes. But when I tried logging in, a webpage shows up saying error my cookies are disabled. But I checked my settings and they are NOT disabled. So I can't even do what I bought this phone to do. Is there a program I'm missing? I haven't yet installed Windows Live. Could this fix the problem?

The sales guy lied to you.

This is not a mini-laptop. The built in browser (PIE) is not even close to capable of displaying all, or even most web sites. You could possibly access more sites using a third-party browser like Opera, but those do not run very well on the 6800 due to its restricted program memory.

If you need a mini-laptop, I suggest you buy one - that will run you about $300-$400. If you need a mini-laptop and you need wireless data access, you can probably get there using both the 6800 and a mini-laptop, if you "tether" the 6800 to it and use the 6800 like a USB wireless modem.

You might be able to get out of the 6800 if you can convince the alltel store management that the salesman lied to you. Just show him you cannot do what you expected to be able to do with a mini-laptop, and then demand a full refund and release from any contract you signed (if you decide to go that route.)

Best of luck.

I agree 100% although skyfire is a lot closer.

I was driving my son back to college yesterday & he used my xv6800 with nue3 & skyfire to do a ton of online school stuff during the 3 1/2 hour ride.

He also updated his fantasy football league which he had forgotten to do from home before we left (that did not work AT ALL using pie+, but worked just fine using skyfire)

Re: Internet capabilities limited??

Well you can do a lot of stuff on the phone though. Office Mobile isn't bad either. Just download a build of Opera and get it done with after flashing nueROM3.

Re: Internet capabilities limited??

I have yet to find anything that I 100% CAN'T do on the phone.

I sometimes have to try a few different browsers & that's a PITA so I use my laptop whenever it's available, but when I'm traveling I don't usually take the LT & I have always been able to figure out a way to do whatever I needed to do online with my 6800.

Re: Internet capabilities limited??

I dunno bout anyone else, but I consider the Mogul a mini-laptop (that runs like my old windows ME computer with bi-daily restarts and an occasional freezing.). Except for gaming, there is very little I don't do on my Mogul.
BTW, I use Opera browser, and I love it. I do everything from facebook/myspace to ppcgeeks to my banking and bill payment.

Re: Internet capabilities limited??

I find surfing the web to be a slow process so browsing forums is kind of a pain but for online banking it would work.

Exactly. I never use my PPC for the forums, but I made a banking transaction from my phone this morning.
