Unhappy Call Waiting on 6800

I am unable to figure out how to get call waiting to not send shock waves through my ear without switching the phone to vibrate after every time I initiate a call. This is only a problem with a hard wired headset, not a problem when talking on the phone normally or using bluetooth. These unfortunately are just not good options for me while driving. This problem has been present in the stock ROM all the way through the latest kitchen release. Does anyone know of a fix that would either switch my phone to vibrate mode after I have picked up a call (call waiting with this just gives a nice beep tone) and switches back after I have terminated the call, or a real fix that would not send a sound that sounds like a cross between a 747 jet taking off and a frog croaking into my ear.
Thanks,
Mrgoldst
