I agree that tethering is way better as it's less stress on the CPU of the phone which marginally increases ping times and throughput.

I put together this oem and cab a while ago and have been meaning to update it for everyone... The OEM has a bad dsm file, but the cab installer works. I will be posting an update soon along with a new program that automatically installs the drivers.

Try the version of WModem in the link above. It's version 2.25.... I came across version 2.36 from the latest Verizon ROM but that version has the check to see if you pay for tethering and then sends you to a page to self provision it if you don't. Version 2.25 does not have this and the cab sets the correct reg entries.
I have been using it all along, in fact I used it yesterday to stream the NASCAR race from my BeyondTV box at home to my laptop while I was at work to get around the work firewall.
