Wi-Fi Issue on PPC6800 with Windows Mobile 6.1 Upgrade

I upgraded my PPC6800 yesterday from Windows Mobile 6.0 to 6.1 . When I did, I lost the Wi-Fi function on my phone. The Wi-Fi worked flawlessly previously on 6.0. Now, the phone detects all networks, says it connects to the network I want, but Internet Explorer only gives a vague error message "The page cannot be displayed. Please check the page and try again" (or something like that) on a black page. I do not have or want a data package on my plan, so I use the Wi-Fi when I use the internet. Just so you know, the switch on the side of the phone is on, and the wi-fi tab in the Settings>Connections tab is turned on. I called Alltel today and they couldn't answer why, so I emailed HTC. HTC emailed this response back:

Hello Brett,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding WiFi.

We understand that this can be very important and are more than happy to assist you.WiFi was disabled in the ROM update by request of Alltel. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused you.

Brett, I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

Re: Wi-Fi Issue on PPC6800 with Windows Mobile 6.1 Upgrade

I'm not sure what your issue is. I just recently upgraded from 6.0 to 6.1 this evening (about 5 minutes ago actually) and everything seems to work just fine. I've tested the wifi on two networks and everything is working flawlessly.

...not sure what that email was about either. I work for alltel and have heard no such thing about the Wifi being removed.

Re: Wi-Fi Issue on PPC6800 with Windows Mobile 6.1 Upgrade

After upgrading to th new ROM did you hardreset the phone? This is very important. I would hard reset the device, and if that doesn't work I would flash back to the previous ROM and then flash to 6.1 all over again. Sometimes it can be trial and error. Hope this helps good luck.

Re: Wi-Fi Issue on PPC6800 with Windows Mobile 6.1 Upgrade

Why not just go with a custom 6.1 ROM. I have seen many threads where ppl have lost WiFi after going to 6.1 and while I wont say it is 100% of the time but I do believe re-flashing was able to resolve it. I guess something gets left out.

I personally would like to think that Alltel wouldnt do something stupid like that and request WiFi no longer be avail but who knows. They all do stupid things from time to time.

Re: Wi-Fi Issue on PPC6800 with Windows Mobile 6.1 Upgrade

I flashed to the new 3.56.651.0 ROM about a week ago, and I now have similar WiFi problems that I did not have with the previous ROM:

* I find that my WiFi is sometimes ON, when the switch is off
* About 2-3x the Battery Drain that I had just a week ago
* The phone stops charging, despite being plugged in to the wall and/or USB, in a seemingly random way - when the battery is not even near being fully charged - also, the Amber LED light flashes for no apparent reason when it never did with the previous ROM

My Mogul is only 5 months old, and it is in excellent condition. I have not found any compelling reason to have WM6.1 or this ROM update over the previous version....

I was charging my battery once per/day, and possibly topping it off with heavy usage - but now I have to charge it nearly 3X each day

I am considering flashing back to the previous ROM - 3.35.651 - but I am worried about bricking my phone...... being that I am a noob

Can anyone help me?

1. Is it typically safe to flash back to the previous ROM version?

2. What are the advantages of WM6.1 over WM6.0? I had SprintTv, EVDO RevA, GPS support, Sprint Navigation, Skyfire, VTap with WM6.0 and it worked great before I "upgraded" to WM6.1 - I guess I thought it would have more features/be more efficient than WM6.0

3. Typically, I only have 1 or 2 apps running in Task Manager, but there are quite a few Processes that I would like to limit. How can I prevent processes that I dont use/need from loading on the Mogul on boot?

Thanks alot guys, this website is the best! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated - this battery drain is absolutely crazy!

Bourbon
