m4a's for ringtones..had it w/stock Rom, but not w/Cooked

I have a Sprint Mogul (PPC 6800) that was capable of using m4a files for ringtones. I cooked a custom ROM up and now the notification shows the m4a files as options, but does not play them in any instance.

afaik all other features/apps/etc are 100% functional, although I am currently using Microsoft Voice Commander v 1.6.19958 and I think I need to go to 1.6.17913 to get full functional voice commands ( to launch apps for instance).

Here's what I have (everything not just sound related):
1-Calc Lite
Comm Manager (6-button)(3D)
Office Excel, Powerpoint, Word
OneNote
AdobeReader LE 2
Pocket Mechanic Pro
dotFred Task Manager
Smartskey
HTC Titan Camera
Iluim Sortware Screen Capture
PIEPlus
IETools
Adobe Flash Player
Flash Video Bundle
TCPMP
HTC Voice Recorder
.NET CF3.5
Telenav for Sprint
Inbox Menu Extensibility
Oxios Memory
HTC DualTouch Dialer
HTC Smartdialing
Adjust OOM Settings
Adjust OOM VLOW
Set Scrollbar Thickness to 9
Skinny Signal Bars
Transcriber
Touchpal 3.5
Touchpal QVGA Classic Skin
Symbol Pad Input
HTC Task Manager
Quickmenu
Microsoft Voice Command 1.6.19958
WiFiFoFum

Separately I added Pocket Digital Clock and Weather Panel.

Any ideas on how to get my m4a's to ringtones again would be helpful. Any critiques/pointers on the overall build would be greatly appreciated as well. I'm especially wanting to avoid redundancy issues or useless apps I amy have included.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Gosh, who would have thought I would have stumped the entire PPC Geeks community with this one innocent question?!

This is my one and only "bump"....I'll work on a solution this weekend and if I fix everything I'll post results for anyone else that may experience this issue.

Where did you place the M4a? In the "My device - Windows - Rings folder"?
Sorry had to ask. I have only tried WAV and MP3 and they both work.

Yes, in the Ringtones file. This setup worked in my stock ROM, but not with the current custom....the devil is in the details, so I'm glad you didn't "assume" I had placed them there.
