I could be wrong but I think you guys are experiencing a placebo effect ... my reason for saying this is because my driver line on some of my roms read

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\D3DM\Drivers]
"LocalHook"="d3dm_ati.dll"

meaning I had added the diamond d3dm drivers there are no differences in my performance from the htc_d3dm.dll ......

like I said I could be wrong but I may have even read some where that this local hook driver have something to do with the camer,a and that is about it

If you open up the cab you'll notice that it also updates the registry with the name of the new driver. Its effect on apps that call D3D, which is mostly just the test apps and a few games, is definetly not placebo: 3fps vs 90fps. Its effect on the vast majority of other programs which make no use of D3D is, of course, entirely placebo.

Interesting bit about the camera. I wouldn't think the camera app would use D3D, but if it does we could expect slightly smoother operation. I doubt there would be any difference in output quality, as that is mostly determined by the poor optics, but the program itself may run smoother.

Sorry for any mistakes, posted from phone.
