Need Guidance - Internet Sharing/Phone as Modem

HELP! I am, relatively (some would say mostly), computer illiterate. I need some knowledgeable guidance. I have a Sprint Mogul. I want to upgrade to Rev. A for the higher speed and maybe, down the road, GPS. My concern is that I occasionally use my Mogul's Internet Sharing to tether to my laptop when I cannot get to a site on the Mogul. Does the stock Sprint REV. A ROM upgrade effect my access to Internet Sharing/Phone as Modem or increase Sprint's awareness of occasional use? I have the $50 SERO plan. RSVP Thanks P.S.
