Launch field trail and see what your dbm signal strength is under the 1x heading and let us know. As far as the authenticated thing, are you able to place and receive calls?

Also, go to Start - Settings - Phone - Services and pick "Mode of operation" on the list and click "Get Settings". Make sure it's set to "Hybrid" instead of 1x. If it's not, I believe it'll make you soft reset after the switch.
