Re: Which radio works best on VZW XV6800?

I'm on dcd 3.1.6 ROM.

I tried both the 3.42.02 and 3.42.30 radio's, no difference that I can tell between them. Both are superior to 3.39 or older versions though. I get faster Rev A speed during tests, and quicker GPS locks.

That's exactly the kind of stuff I was wanting to know! Big thanks to you when I get to a PC (on the mobile page now, no thanks button).

Anyone else done any radio testing and want to weigh in on which version they prefer?

Radio Version: 3.35.04

I've noticed there are higher versions of the radio scattered about, and I've been wondering... which radio version works best for the Verizon network? I would try them one by one, but calling and being on the phone for an hour for a new A-key to get my phone back to making and recieving calls kinda sucks!

So I'm looking for words of experience on this. Which has worked best for you Verizon users out there? GPS locks quickest, and best signal and evdo speeds. (I know sometimes you can't have it all.) And any links to radio updates would be great too!

One other thing I'm wondering is about updating the radio. I know when I went up to 3.35, my phone wouldn't boot past the HTC logo until I flashed the stock VZW rom to the No2Chem 5067 rom. So any breif ideas as to what I might run into while updating to any suggested radios would be appreciated.
This is absolutely and completely dependent on your location. So no one (unless they live very close to you) can give you a correct answer to this.

Just updated radio to the 3.42.30 from the Vouge via SD card, and wow what a difference. No need for A-key, no need for over-the-air programming, it just worked as soon as it booted back up. Everything was still correctly listed in EPST.

On the 3.35 radio, my biggest issue was that after soft reset, it took forever to connect to the Verizon network... like sometimes as much as a full minute would pass. I would see "Home Service" on my HTC Home screen, and on my wireless today plugin. Also had the circle with the line through it where my signal bars should've been. At times I would have to hit the power button and wait about 10 seconds before turning back on to get it to connect to the towers.

Now that I'm on the 3.42.30, it takes about 4 seconds after soft reset to get my signal back. Massive improvement!

Re: Which radio works best on VZW XV6800?

I went from 3.35 to 3.42.30. My internet connection and GPS locks are markedly improved. It seems that bluetooth connection are clearer as well. I am running no2chem's 5067.

Can you do the radio flash with a 2g sd card?

Re: Which radio works best on VZW XV6800?

I have read that some people have had success in flashing with a 2gig sd card, but I didn't. But then again, I didn't try formatting it through the Windows XP command prompt as suggested because I didn't want to take the extra time removing all my pictures, and my rather bulky 900+MB map file for Garmin Mobile XT to do it.

Most of the detailed instructions on flashing via sd card say you have to use smaller than a 1GB sd. When I tried with a 2gig by just dumping the radio image with the rest of my files I got the "No Image Found" error in bootloader. So I just borrowed a buddy's 512MB SD, formatted through command prompt, and it worked great. Easiest way I've ever used for flash updating a ROM.

The best part was, no need for *228, or an a-key after flashing. I don't think it even disturbed my PRL.

Re: Which radio works best on VZW XV6800?

I changed to 3.42.02 last weekend and haven't noticed any improvements, really. Voice and internet work fine, but they did before, too.

Eh, gives me something to do, I guess.

Re: Which radio works best on VZW XV6800?

I'm on Verizon with radio 3.39.10 and a ROM built using No2Chem 5067 kitchen and I have had no problems. My Garmin Mobile XT works great. As for the Akey, I had success by logging into my account on verizonwireless.com, chaged to a different device (old phone) and then changed back to the 6800. It was fast and there was no need to contact tech support.

Re: Which radio works best on VZW XV6800?

Ok, This is just my experience with radio's and verizon. I am in southern California if that makes a difference.

I started with the stock radio and then went to 3.35.04 with DCD 3.0.4 rom and I didn't notice much difference besides I could use GPS if I stood outside in a empty parking lot for 15 minutes.
Then I moved to 3.37.20 with DCD 3.1.2still and had the same results as 3.35.04.
I then flashed with 3.39.10 from the Sprint pre-release and noticed great battery life. Bluetooth connected faster and data/gps seemed about the same. But the battery life nearly doubled what it was before.
I then went to 3.42.02 with DCD 3.1.2 and my battery life went down quite a bit but my GPS lock-on was under 10 minutes and I could lock in a car. Bluetooth seemed about the same as the beta and evdo seemed the same since 3.35.04.
I then put on no2chem 5067 and had almost exactly the same results as with DCD but the phone seemed to respond quicker and wouldn't need restarts as often.
Now I am on no2chem 5069-k with 3.42.02 and battery life is worse than before. My BT doesn't always connect when I answer a call, and EVDO/GPS are the same. I also seem to have significantly less signal with this rom/radio and just today I my phone was rining but I couldn't answer because it said my signal was not strong enough from my office where I have tested every other rom/radio and they all worked.
I plan on moving to 3.42.30 as soon as no2chem 5070 comes out.

So far though the best combination I have tried is 3.39.10 and no2chem 50067.

BTW Battery was my biggest complaint and even with no2chem 5069 and radio 3.42.02 (the worst of all the custom rom combinations so far) I still get significantly better battery than I did with a stock rom.
