no2chem vis DCD

I know much of this has to do with personal preferences but....

As a first time 'flasher' is there any advantage to one or the other....

And, Is it best to start with a pre-built ROM and then play with a kitchen?

Thanks to all for all the info in the threads.

Re: no2chem vis DCD

basically just try them both out and see. theyre both very good. i definitely prefer using the kitchens because then i can make the rom as clean as i want.

im on no2's 5069k for right now because i cant get fully functional sms or mms with dcd, but im pretty sure it has to do with my phone and carrier and not the actual rom itself.

btw theres definitely other threads around on this exact topic already. you should look through those then maybe only start a thread if theres something more specific you want to talk about

I have looked and I'm finding a lot of opinions and not much hard fact. This is to be expected but I was looking specifically for VERIZON comments. I'm interested in speed and stability mostly. But, thanks for your comment.

Re: no2chem vis DCD

I have verizon and have used both ROMS. Both are stable, although I usually wait a day or 2 after no2chem releases a ROM because it generally takes a revision or two to get things totally stable since his tend to push the envelope more than dcd's.

IMHO, no2chem's roms are faster and have more free memory. They also have direct draw - I don't think any other roms have it, but I may be wrong. His next rom will have a custom driver for the wifi switch that will let it control the volume instead of wifi.

I started with dcd's because it worked great out of the box with no need to install a custom big-button dialer or skins. I think no2chem's comes with skinned dialer and comm manager now too (I have a custom dialer autoinstall after flash).

I tend to avoid kitchens because it's a pain to remove or update programs that are installed through a kitchen. You have to re-flash to uninstall or upgrade programs that are part of the kitchen. I prefer to have my program cabs automatically installed using UC or one of the other auto-installers right after I flash so it's easy to uninstall them if needed.

Re: no2chem vis DCD

I'm NOT a Verizon user, so I can't speak to that. All I can say is that for a first-time flasher, no2chem's ROMs contain more features (more standard functions that DCD strips, and more cool new utilities you'll grow to like), and that some utilities like nueFirstBoot and others make getting your phone running the first time (and customized for your carrier) easier. And I just love the overall speed of his. That said, I've honestly never used DCDs, specifically because I need/want a large amount of what he strips out, and didn't want to have to manually reinstall all of that. Seems to defeat the purpose for me.

Lol I was joking... It seems like I flash back and forth quite a bit though trying to find my happy home... I must say though, I think n2c's rom is def a lot FASTER than dcd's... I think dcd's is a bit more stable.

Ohhh and n2c's has the nifty new flashlight tool which has saved me quite a few aches and pains from running around the house in the dark! hah!
