Rev a on this ROM?

I recently updated my XV6800 to enable the GPS. I am using DCD's 2.1.0 ROM with a 3.27.00 Radio version. I know this enables GPS, but does it enable Rev a as well, or is there any way for me to find out? Any related recommendations are also very welcome.

Sorry for all the questions, still weaning into this great new device.

yes, it does.
to check this - tether your phone and go to speedtest.net.. if you upload speeds are over 110 or so, then you have RevA... (check my sig for Tether walkthrough)

you should really upgrade to 3.35 radio and at least to DCD's 3.x rom.. - HERE.
or try a No2chem flavor, using the PPCKitchen.. i'ver personally found that to be a more robust solution (totally personal preference though)
your using the old school versions.. not a bad thing, but it's just many revs behind the current edge....

i've created a visual walkthrough on flashing a no2chem rom, HERE, if you decide to go that route.

Re: Rev a on this ROM?

Thank you very much Nickles, you've been a lot of help. I figured it was an older version, but I just got the thing last week so I'm taking baby steps, I'll eventually upgrade it to a more current version.

I assume that when I upgrade the radio to 3.35 (from what I've read) I won't lose GPS capability, but will I have to call verizon again and get that new A key? It was so odd calling, they must have caught on by now and figured out what people are doing, but is there really anything they could do.

And by upgrading the ROM I'm going to lose everything thats on there (Programs, contacts etc.) and have to replace them, right? Not a big deal to be honest, there isn't a heck of a lot I've put on.

correct, you will NOT lose GPS.. you MAY need to call VZW for a new aKey, but you may not.. i have only upped my radio once, not twice, so i'm not sure on that.
but it doesnt matter.. 'i did a hard reset and now it won't authenticate' is all you ever need to say.. you can call them once a day for it, they dont care.
(we VZW users are the only ones with this aKey business)

yes, you will lose everything when you flash a new ROM.
pick yourself up SPB Backup. it's awesome and i use it all the time.
the newest version, just released TWO DAYS AGO, allows for a restore of data, from a different rom version..
Link HERE.

also, get a very simple and small program called PPCPimbackup.. this will handle backing up and restoring just your contacts if you don't want/need to do a full system backup - LINK.

part of the fun however, is sitting down after a flash and loading up all your stuff again and re-customizing.. and don't for one second think this is the last flash you'll do.. it's addictive and you will find yourself flashing many many times.. so don't load up everything at one shot until your happy with the way the rom reacts.. you may find one little thing you dont like, or a bug, then back to re-flash you go..

thats why we are all bloodshot-eyed zombies on this board.. all the customizations, and MORE customizations we all do after a flash.

welcome to the fun .

Re: Rev a on this ROM?

I'm not worried about calling Verizon. They've screwed up on our bill enough times so that I have memorized the buttons to hit to get to a representative, haha.

It's a nerdy things to say, but I know exactly what you mean when you said it is fun to reload all your stuff onto your device. I think 95% of people would consider it a pain in the ***, but us 5% actualyl enjoy it, haha.

I've used PPCPimbackup, its great, much easier than Outlook. I'll look into SPB Backup.

I got the E815 when it first came out back in June 05 I think it was and at that time there was a ton of stuff people were doing to it. I used to be flashing it every week or so with something or another. But over the years it's popularity started to die out and it was just the hardcore fans that still had it. Mine started to slip a few weeks ago and I was going to switch to my backup then I said to myself "Jesus, this phone's three years old" so I upgraded to the XV6800, and to be quite honest, I havent looked back. The only thing I miss on that phone is the reception. Look it up if you have the time, it was notorious for having the best reception out of any Verizon phone then and even now.

I'd have assumed so. Is there any way to test it from the phone, because I get sh*t service at my house but excellent service at my lake house.

Haha. I have two cousins who moved down to the Scottsdale area in Arizona. I've heard it's a dry heat though which makes it more bearable.

I'm sure there's a way to test the down/up speeds from the phone, I'll look into it.
