I was told that I would need to flash a new custom ROM, and I have searched, but really don't know what I am looking at (or for.) I would prefer to find a ROM with the GPS stuff already done, with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional that is similar to what came on my phone from Alltel.
Thanks,

Well, the problem is that your current Alltel ROM is Windows 6 and includes a bunch of software added by Alltel (ie. Alltel Access, etc) The custom ROMS are just that..custom and use Windows 6.1 but probably won't have any carrier bloatware added. You can put alot of that stuff back in but requires finding the specific CAB file. I have used DCD 'clean' ROMs (using dcd 3.1.2 now), vetvitos black pill ROM, and a couple of cooked ROMs from the PPC kitchen. I prefer a 'clean' ROM without any of the Alltel stuff on my phone and then I just added the programs I use and like. N2C's ROMS and Vet's ROMs have more stuff in them and their contents are listed in their original post. If you're just starting out I would flash a 'pre-cooked' ROM by one of the original ROM 'chefs' here or on XDA-Developer's ie. DCD, Vetvito, No2Chem, Colonel, etc. Those ROMs will already have the stuff you need to run your GPS but they may not have something in them that is unique to your Alltel ROM that you want. There was a poster on this site (sorry..can't remember his name) that had a basically stock Alltel ROM posted that was GPS capable. A quick search should find it. I also think it is much easier to flash ROMs using the microSD card method rather than a RUU (rom update utility). This requires that you have a card reader though. Try a few different ROMs and see what you like...thats whats cool about these sites...theres lots to choose from and then you can go really crazy and start using a 'kitchen' to make your ROMS.
