Upgraded - Now Roaming!

After suffering with the irritating Bluetooth issues with my HTC, I thought I'd do some searching on the Internet to see if others had the same issues. Lo and behold, it looks like a real bug with the HTC. After reading some forums, it looked like the latest Sprint release would cure the problem. I downloaded the unlock program ("Hard-SPL-MFG") and the Sprint update (RUU_TITAN_SPRINT_WWE_3.35.651.2_RS_TITAN_3.35.04_ 4350H_SPCS_AM_Ship) and proceeded to update my HTC.

After a few unsuccessful attempts (stuck at the three color bars a couple of times, restarting a few times on it's own) I managed to get the unlock code and Sprint update installed.

The problem I have now is that it appears that I am now roaming even though I'm in my local calling area. I'm with Bell Canada so I wonder if updating with a Sprint ROM messed things up

Help! What should I do??

Re: Upgraded - Now Roaming!

um yeah. You've answered your own question. You now have a phone that thinks it is a sprint phone.

You need to reflash your phone back to your carriers ROM .

Re: Upgraded - Now Roaming!

I was hoping that wouldn't be the solution as Bell Canada hasn't release any updates to the HTC Also, does anyone know where I might find a Bell Canada download?

bobparr, is Bell Canada the same as Bell Mobility? if so, the kitchen has that carrier in it now, you could build a rom from that. However, if you let the customizations run when you flashed the Sprint rom, your data/connection setting may have got hosed. someone on the board here could maybe post their settings so you can fix that part.

Edit- it could be just a case of the wrong PRL now too...meaning the Sprint rom added its own Preferred Roaming List. If you can find a PRL for your provider... might help.

Re: Upgraded - Now Roaming!

It would seem that the updater you used on your Bell Mobility Touch made your phone into a Sprint phone.

A few issues you're gonna have;

a. PRL will need to be reloaded for your carrier

As far as where to find and download your carrier's PRL, I would normally suggest Corolada PRL Page but it seems they do not have Canadian carriers listed. You may try the howardforums bell forum and ask for someone to send it to you. Then you can use ##PRL# or ##PRL talk/send on your phone app (you need your MSL) to load it from your SD root directory or device once you've copied it.

b. SID/NID will have to be set for your carrier

In looking through PRL interpretations, it seems that 16420 (Montreal QC / Toronto ON) may work for you. Other options are 16440 and 16426 as your SID.

c. IOTA is gonna get in your way trying to get a data connection and failing.

A fix to this and most of the problems you're having now would be to use the kitchen and cook yourself up a Bell custom rom.

hope that helps,

-CC

Re: Upgraded - Now Roaming!

Thanks for the great suggestions. One thing, I'm a newbie when it comes to doing all of this updating stuff on cell phones. If typing out all of the terminologies, acronyms, how-tos etc is too much to post here, could someone point me to somewhere where I can get a quick primer on all of this? Thanks!

Re: Upgraded - Now Roaming!

might check the wiki's maybe, its probably there. im on sprint so...little difference in the settings on mine. no SID/NID on sprint. I would assume NID is Network Identification.
