im just guessing here, but im betting that you put the sprint update on your phone and had the customizations run?

if thats the case you will have to downgrade your phone im going to start on that guide right now.

does, ##778 work?

What exactly are you planning to downgrade? It has been stated multiple times in several threads that it is not safe and a downgrade of the radio should not be attempted at this point. Really not sure why you need to downgrade anything.

No, it's http://ppckitchen.org/Downloads/BuildOS.msi

Also, reverting to pre 3.35 (No GPS) is a risky and therefore bad idea.

BTW, your Bold key is stuck.

Im planning on downgrading the phone back to near stock, i say near stock because there is no offical USCC rom

Yes i read that in several threads about it not being safe after i got stuck in the locked bootloader, but i did find a way out of it and now have a system set that i can go back to the stock radio just fine and back up!

i have done it to 5 of these just fine and never once had to have the phone replaced

downgrading is a good idea for the following reasons,
#1 in case of warrenty work
#2 in case USCC releases an offical rom with GPS enabled
#3 in case you want to go back to the stock settings taking out GPS and getting all the OE files and programs back
#4 to start over incase you let the sprint customizations run that change everything on your phone even how you access certain features like the ##000000 and so on. its easier to go back than it is to fix a ton of differences

and im sure there are other reasons that im not thinking of.

Im making this guide to hopefully help some USCC people with this phone since it took me a few solid days to track down the information and try out different things as well as some of my own and get them to work right the first time! and over the course of this i had to downgrade my phone several times to start over!

any other questions? because i feel like your making a statment that it cant be done when it can be done for i have done it. and im sure others have as well, its just not all assembled into and easy to use blueprint (guide)

lol yeah i see that its stuck i will edit that,

BTW try clicking the link to buldOS i posted, it does work :)

as for risky, i wouldnt say that it is any more risky than upgrading custom firmware :)

as with everything, its use at your own risk right?

but maybe, just maybe, if you have a working guide that if you follow it reverting back works, then maybe it will cut down on the people who think they "Bricked" there phone :) and, or help people who get stuck in a bootloader screen :)

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

Well, the bricked mode is not just stuck in bootloader. However, I just wanted to make sure you were giving ample warning to people before they jumped into your guide once you put it up. If it works great, but I think people should also know that there are some serious consequences that may occur.

ImCoKeMaN 04-20-2008 10:45 PM

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

Um, Trust me its WAY more risky than just normal OS flashing. There is part of the radio that will never be overwritten after going to GPS radios (by current known means) despite the version number actually changing. This can lead to bricks (see sig) but not always immediately. Additionally, there could be some random incompatibilites with an inconsistent radio image.

tiermann 04-20-2008 10:47 PM

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

Any link other than http://ppckitchen.org/downloads/buildos.msi does not guarantee the latest stable release.

maverick351ci 04-20-2008 10:49 PM

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

Colonel, Thank you, and i plan on putting a nice big red warning on the top of it when i get around to post it up here, i do agree that people should be warned, even though anything you find for information is use at your own risk on the net :)

maverick351ci 04-20-2008 11:13 PM

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

ImCokeMan - True, the downgrade is more for getting settings back so you can reupgrade to the GPS rom, or if you was getting rid of your phone, warrenty whatever you may want to, or for the daring like me that will give it a try, if it causes problem you can allways upgrade again!

Tiermann - Thanks i changed the link on the first post, but i kinda figured that the updater would get the most current release.... am i wrong?

Ok, the radio thing seems to really have people confused and understandably so. I was VERY direct with my warnings for a reason. I am certain that your phone does have some code on it that is from the GPS rom, and that may or may not show itself in roms you use that aren't designed for GPS. The radio section is made up of different parts and the one that shows the radio version number is getting flashed, but the part that loads it isn't going to "revert" to stock as it is write protected (something to do with the 785 nbh header). This can cause issues and it was related to what ended up bricking my device.

Sounds like there's a section of the "radio" that doesnt get updated when the radio is flashed back, perhaps i can best explain with this reference... found an interesting fix for Invalid Vendor ID and Invalid Model ID that actually broke WiFi on the Excalibur -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328690 but the solution -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...3&postcount=16 involves a dump and some hex editing to correct those problem sections in NaND memory that could not be overwrote. i could be wrong, but i think that's what ImCoKeMaN is trying to point out. That it IS POSSIBLE to downgrade, however the actual NaND memory section that is "protected" may not get overwrote, may become corrupt, could be wrote to different/mismatching memory addresses, and could cause problems... or you could NEVER notice a problem at all...

I know it works right now. Purely coincidental. That was the location of the original release before the downloads folder was set up. Try it now - I bet it doesn't work any more :)

there's some truth to that. At least when you upgraded, you got GPS hopefully:)

The reasons for downgrading that you cited aren't worth the risk of potentially bricking your phone. In the case of a possible stock GPS for your carrier, your better off waiting for that to be a reality than theorizing about how to handle it now.

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

you can read more about the downgrading debate here

One Final comment for tonight:

On the Original (not slim) Sony PSP, once you downgrade from an "official" 3.XX release of the firmware back to the kickass 1.5 - you cannot upgrade to any 3.XX "official" version without very high chance of bricking your device. This is due to xtra files left behind in the NAND memory - Although you can install custom firmware so that you have the best features of both 1.5 and 3.XX

Once again, same concept i believe

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

I understand all of everyone’s concerns, I really do. but here is my deal, during the course of messing with things to get everything back up to normal, I had to downgrade my boot loader to 1.00 then up to 1.20 then up to 2.40 several times as well as go back in radio ROMs and OS ROMs in the same manner to get the sprint customizations off my phone and the ##000000 working again like it did originally when the sprint customizations ran it changed it to ##778 one, now this isn’t a big deal to most but if I was to take my phone in to get it worked on, I didn’t want to have to explain why the epst access was different to the noob working the counter trying to gain epst access to my phone. Most of the people can only follow what there procedure is and not think outside the box. this is just one example of what the customizations change, and im sure that there is another way of fixing them, but everything I read said to go back to the stock ROM for the Alltel users and to do so you must downgrade.......
Correct me if im wrong, but I really do not want to beat a dead horse with the downgrade debate, this isn’t the intentions I had for this tread I just wanted to get some options out there to the USCC users of this device since it is very new in the USCC market and all, finding information on this carrier is very hard to sift trough, and most of what I have listed has come from many different threads on here XDA and random forums found trough Google, I just wanted to compile what does work for USCC in one place you know.....

so if its all the same to everyone, I would like to end the downgrade debate as of this post and save this tread for questions and responses to the process as well as ideas and updating the main topic.

ImCoKeMaN 04-21-2008 10:49 AM

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

Whatever customizations you collected when you did the downgrade should be saved seperately and made available to everyone so that not everyone does the downgrade.

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

No I haven't upgraded yet... I'm reading everything over 3 times.. righting down everything I might need... you know the typical anal things... this is my work phone so I want to make sure it gets up and running.... dum questions.... I really don't mind the way my phone works now (lots of people post I hate this, hate that) but want to add GPS to it. what is the best approach to only add gps? I get into this whole kitchen thing and it gets confusiing.. all I reallly want to do for my first attempt is turn on GPS and leave the rest as it is now... know what I mean? then I'll tinker...

maverick351ci 04-22-2008 08:50 AM

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

i know exactly what you mean, thats all i wanted to add the first time myself and have been working on building a kitchen thats as close to origonal as possible. although there are some handy things in the kitchen that i have added like the "Slide to unlock" and the WMP today plugin and GPStoday. i also have a little cab that will revert the text msg back to individual text messages instead of the threaded type (i hate that) the one thing i wish i could find is the origonal 7 button comm manager but im probably going to have to figure out how to port it into the kitchen off of my backups

Thanks for the heads up there. I successfully or so I thought took my xv6800 back to stock 2.09 ce and 1.30.60 radio and used it for a week stock with no apparent ill effects after reverting from dcd 3.01 and 3.35 radio. Won't do it again unless I need to FRU it.

In the PPCkitchen BuildOS in the No2Chem selections you can choose US. Cellular as the carrier the others you cannot, unless it has been updated to do so in the past few days. thats why i say to use the No2Chem 5060 WM6.1 setup

Hope tha clarifys it a little bit :)

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

well I took the plunge and upgraded yesterday.... there was one very anxious moment but I logged into chat here and someone fixed me up quick!! GPS works, but the phone is much slower than before. next dumb question how do I get some of the programs off the phone as I was so nervous picking stuff in the Kitchen I ended up with more than I need, stuff I don't like and duplicates but under remove programs I don't see any programs... I'm hoping this will help with the speed and memory.. only other comment for some reseaon my phone says CellSouth in phone mode or main page but I did change it to US Cellular in NAM settings.... don't want to advertise I hacked it.. Do I go through the Kitchen and unselect stuff I want off and reflash?? thanks again for all the help and support!!

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

Yes, you will need to do another build to remove the selected programs.
When you changed the name in the NAM settings, did they stay after a soft-reset?
I have tried chaning mine and it always changes back.

mykleh35 04-23-2008 11:25 AM

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

the name stays in the settings its on the screen that is goofy... I'm thinking its hard coded in the front page I'm using.... going to remove some stuff and see if I can get this thing moving I'm at 73% running hardly anything...

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide

I've been told it is set by the sending tower, or something like that.
I've changed mine and it just gets reset afterwards. I think this is a problem with all USCC upgrades at this time. Hopefully someone can come up with a fix for this problem.

i have a hell of a problem. there was some time lag after i ran the Hard-SPL-MFG.exe and the titan radio 3.35, and now when i try to flash the rom, it gives me an error that the phone is not connected, though the usb is connected and the phone is in the cradle. i am running Vista, and getting the phone to sync in the first was never easy. is there anything i can do or did i just ruin my phone?

*EDIT*

i restarted both the phone and computer with no luck, the exact error i am getting is ERROR [260]: CONNECTION

the upgrade utility cannot connect to your phone. please check that your cradle is connected and the phone is in the cradle.

EDIT # 2

never mind, i figured it out. i did a hard reset (camera button, power button, reset button) and the multicolored screen came up, everything worked fine from there

well depending on the rom you flashed, it might not have the files for GPS, there's a dll cab floating around somewhere. as far as flashing another rom, its kinda like formatting your computer - when you flash the new one it erases the old OS portion ;-)
