changing background transparency on today screen?

so i wanna put a picture on the today screen, but its always like 50% opacity for transparency. i remembered LONG time ago when i first got the phone i tried to change the background, i had an option to make it transparent or not and the percentage, but now i have no idea how i accessed it.

to change the backgroudn i just go to start->settings->today and click the use this picture as my background box and browse my way to the picture.

using dcd 3.0.1's rom.


ALSO: can i change it so that the start menu wont be the background, but its own screen? with the background there i cannot see any of the names on the list on the start menu.
