Improve Latency and Speed

Hello,

This has come to my attention as a not so apparent but significant tweak avaliable to sprint users.

Basically, sprint has 6 areas, 1-7 except 6. Each area is served by two or four HA nodes and all your data goes through that node, regardless of where you are. If you're node is area 1 (California~) and you're in new york, your data bounces around from new york to LA before it hits sprint's backbone. Also, some areas are more congested than others. To fix this issue, you can manually change your HA node, or hope IOTA is treating you well.

Mogul/HTC Specific:
1) Get MSL code
2) Go to ##pst#
3) go to modem profile 1
4) set HA primary / secondary to something you like (see link below)
5) test pings to your favorite sites and speed test

to make sure its working, visit http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?whoami=1&w=
it will say DNS: areaXX.spcsdns.net

I found Area 7 to be good to me for bandwidth and area 4 to be good for latency.

With no change in signal strength or tower or moving the phone or kicking people off the tower or changing the cost of data plans, I was able to go from 190-200ms ping to google and 650/250 to 1050/300 and 150ms to google.

Also, 255.255.255.255 is some kind of automatic selection ip.

Re: Improve Latency and Speed

this is tricky stuff at it's root. modern networks are all qos'd and most likely you'll always be routed the most efficient route. for example here in the midwest on broadband networks most traffic actually goes to ft worth or Denver (qwerst), not Chicago as would seam closer. although I was just reminded that in 99 I upgraded the internal LAN in the chi sprint LD hub. damn, i reak of spint

Smile Re: Improve Latency and Speed

I have my MSL and just followed the directions at the beginning and it looks like I am already set up closest to the node in my city...

however...(because of my curiosity)

after going to modem profile 1, I went to select the data paramaters screen and noticed "REV A" is not "enabled" by default. I have the latest Sprint Rom with GPS. Seems pretty strange that this is not enabled.

My question is: Does this actually change anything on the phone or am I just an newbie thinking he found something unique (which is probably more likely)?

Re: Improve Latency and Speed

Yes I've been messing with this all day...and have noticed some changes. The 255 code automatically pick up the closest ant. Also depending on your area play around with your Rev A you might end up finding you get better speeds with this off. There are alot of things this depends on though...took me just a little over an hour to find my best config. Goodluck!!

Re: Improve Latency and Speed

The Rev A setting should say Disable when you look at it, this means it's currently Enabled.
