Heres one for the PPC Gods:

Is there a such thing as a dual boot rom or a boot rom manager? Or is one the max these things can do?

Re: Heres one for the PPC Gods:

that's a darn good question. Cody? no2chem? anyone? If this is possible, that's the next step I'd take to "decking out" my Titan, and I'd love to use that with an embedded linux distro

Re: Heres one for the PPC Gods:

Ok, I must say that would be amazing. But it'd require rewriting the bootloader, I'd imagine.

Re: Heres one for the PPC Gods:

while you messing with the bootloader couldnt you hack the os to read your external memory as internal? i dont know if im making sense or where that part of programing happens but ive been reading alot of ppc posting and some people on here just leave me in awe.

Re: Heres one for the PPC Gods:

Thats kind of what I was thinking. Storing all your desired custom OS's on the storage card. Fire up the phone, have the boot loader let you select the OS you want to boot. That OS would then stay resident in the memory instead of it actually running off the card. It was a cool though that hopefully somebody will be able to figure out, but thats out of my league.

Re: Heres one for the PPC Gods:

the problem in running linux on the phone is the drivers arent supported. so...yeah, i've heard people booting it up, but that's all you can do, it wont do anything.

Re: Heres one for the PPC Gods:

Well, while you're at it, how about adding a "ReadyBoost"-like feature to the PPC, basically to partition a piece of your SD card to be used as program memory. Then the memory problem would be out of our hair. That's a pretty damn good idea. Anyone?

Wouldn't work, RAM (program memory) is exponentially faster than even the fastest flash storage cards, so basically your PPC would slow down and we'd be back to square one. Yup, too bad HTC had to learn that WM6 needed more RAM AFTER they launched the Titan/Mogul.

Well, I think it was designed for, and launched with, WM5. The Titan hardware was designed before MS released the new base hardware recommendations for WM6. Could definetly use more RAM, but it will last me until my next device. Here's looking forward to WM7, or maybe even Android.
