GPS very slow on Verizon XV6800

Ok before you jump all over me for the new thread start I am going to defend myself. Yes I have searched and have not found an answer

I have followed the steps on here and flashed my phone about two weeks ago with the sprint rom. and also used DCD kitchen 3.0.1 to update the phone. Everything is working great but am having a hell of a time connecting to the sats. sometimes it will take 10 minutes to connect and its hit or miss.

I thought this was just the nature of the beast until i updated my friends sprint phone and his connects in about 3 seconds. Anyone having this issue? Or know of any fixes for it on a verizon phone?

Thanks all, this forum is great. I have definately found many answers to my hiccups.

You may not be using AGPS and instead using GPS stand alone. I too had this problem.
Look into updating to the latest sprint Radio /bootloader/ROM

Edit: Actually I believe it's a registry entry.

hey I did do the sprint update. Can anyone else give any insight on the registry entry? Or of a way I can verify that I have the correct one?

I know I was having the same slow GPS problems as you the other day, but today whenever I turn it on, I get a lock in 30 seconds or less. I didn't change anything that I know of... just a better day for satellites?

Re: GPS very slow on Verizon XV6800

A really quick signal acquisition means that the signal was "boosted" through your data connection.

A really slow sat acquisition (if you are outdoors free of overhead clutter) means that your GPS is in standalone mode.
This slow acquisition takes longer if you are in a moving vehicle.
This standalone acquisition is referred to as a "cold start". It takes the best commercially available GPS units 2-5 minutes to acquire...

Best bet, is to stop moving and make sure you are not in a canyon, the amazon or subway tunnel...

is there any way once the signal is locked to leave it locked instead of everytime i reload google maps that it tries to find the sat again?

Re: GPS very slow on Verizon XV6800

It depends, if you are reloading google maps (or any nav package) after a very short timeframe, a standalone acquisition would require a "Warm or Hot start". However, the constellation of GPS satellites are in orbit therefore they are moving. After a period of time, a different set of sat's will appear, and a new acquisition is required to triangulate your position.

If you are on an unlimited data plan, I recommend taking advantage of the AGPS. It will give a fix in mere seconds - cold or warm start, indoor even (which you will have to move outdoors).

Re: GPS very slow on Verizon XV6800

How do you enable/take advantabe of AGPS...I looked through the settings I could find in system/settings/gps and in googlemaps...but don't find any options for it.
Thanks
