need help with evdo rev A on VZW

I have upgraded to the new 3.35 radio and am using dcd 3.0.1 wm6.1 on vzw. The gps works great but I cant seem to get the rev a to work. I am a vzw agent so I am positive that rev a is in my area as all of vzw's evdo towers broadcast rev a and I am in a full evdo signal area. My dl speeds never exceed bursts of 1300 mbps and upload never exceeds 170mbps. Under epst on dcds vzw rom there is no option to enable/disable rev a under data parameters or anywhere else in epst. Has anyone figured out how to enable it on vzw. My aircard zips along at rev a in the same spot I was testing my phone on.

Re: need help with evdo rev A on VZW

1300 down/170 up sounds about right. The upload is a little on the slow side, but definetly within the norm for RevA.

Tests all over my area (Houston) have given me a peak of about 2.2 mbps down/550 kbps up. That is pretty rare though. I would say I average around 1 meg down and 200 up.

aircard gets usually 1450-1500 dl and 400 to 600 up.

Re: need help with evdo rev A on VZW

Sorry, I must have missed the part about the aircard on my first read through your post. These tests can be done simultaneously in the exact same location, and the aircard performs significantly better each time? I just want to be sure that you're really comparing apples to apples. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the dedicated data card performs a little better. I'd assume it's got some data optimizations.

I'd try your phone out in a few different locations and see if you get any better results. I think it is safe to say you're on Rev A though, as a 170 kbps upload isn't doable on Rev 0. 1300 down is pretty decent too, and barely within the realm of possibility for Rev 0. You could also check what PRL you're running on your phone. Not usually going to make a huge difference, but I always like to be up to date anyway.

One last thought, how are you doing your speed tests? Results on the phone are not very accurate, so I just want to make sure you're doing the tests tethered to a computer (USB or WiFi preferrably, as BT tops out a little over 1meg).

Im using newest employee prl dated 3/20 and tethering the phone via usb and wifi router. Test from speedtest.net on both ping is really high on 6800 too the 550-580 ms range.

Re: need help with evdo rev A on VZW

Hmm...The ping times are interesting. I had thought you were just getting some temporary low speeds, but I was having that same issue after switching from the unofficial 3.16/3.27 ROM to the official 3.35/3.35. I was getting significantly slower speeds (up and down) and awful latency. My ping times were often in the 600-800 ms range. Just to be sure the tests weren't a fluke I ran it that way for about a week, and I always had substantially slower speeds and high pings in areas where I used to get great performance. I flashed back and forth from 3.16 to 3.35 a few times, loaded a newer PRL, and eventually got things working right again. I'm not sure what finally fixed it. Maybe try a hard reset or even a reflash.

Ya, that looks pretty good. Pings look better too. Just one of those weird things I guess
