You might want to check the event viewer on your PC to see if any errors were entered into the log. Just type eventvwr at a command prompt. |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Ok I did that from another pc. I took the pda back to my this pc and tried to flash the nu2 rom onto it. Now it wont get out of boot loader. Am I missing something here?
|
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Ok I managed to flash to nu2's 5058 pre fix. Here are my two questions. How can I put mms back on the phone and also now it says it cannot authenticate my phone so no text messages can be sent out or received along with calls cannot be sent out or received. What do I do now?

i really love my phone the way i have it set up now. i've been customizing it for weeks, and it works just great.. emails, mms, progs, regedits, etc... I've been doing a ton of reading and seems folks still have a myriad of issues with the DCD 3.0.1 ROM, and 2.3.2 may be a little more stable.. but i'm not a fan of having any issues whatsoever, so i just can't stop thinking to myself if a flash would even be worth it to me.. my main goal is just to enable GPS.. thats it. but i don't know if i'd be happy with a working GPS and a not-working 'other stuff', like so many people are posting about.. anyone have an opinion on a 'almost' stock looking new (verizon) rom, that would work with the new sprint radio ? i read so much about DCD and NUE, but if there are any others, they are buried and i've missed them.. i have OCD and i know i'd just be pulling my hair out over the next several weeks trying to hammer out all the little issues if i went with the 3.0.1 ROM... versus right now - with zero issues, but no GPS ](*,) |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Thanks guys,
I followed these instructions and updated my phone to DCD. I had to call vzw to get them to reauthenticate my phone but seems to work now |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
So after reading through many threads on upgrading the ROM, I did it using this one. I successfully got olipro-2.4.0 installed, then the Sprint ROM, then dcd 3.0.1.
The phone boots up just fine, and I'm dumped into WM6.1 welcome screen. A voicemail icon popped up, so I tried to call but I got the verizon recording saying that they are "unable to authenticate" my phone. Does this mean I need to call and get a new A-key? Or did I miss a step? I re-entered the MDN and MSID, but still nothing. Should I try *228 options 1 or 2? Thanks! EDIT: also, when I try to send a text to myself through vzw's website, it gives a "message undeliverable" message on the website. EDIT2: so I tried *228 option 1 and now Verizon Wireless shows up as the carrier on the start screen, but still can't call out. Guess I'll call to get a new akey UPDATE: called TS, fixed. I don't know what they did, but I didn't have to enter an A-key, just rebooted the phone and did *228 option 1 after they did some stuff on their side? |

I did the same thing as you above, they told me they took it off the network and readded it? the first person I spoke to said I needed a new a-key, I said whats that? He said he needed to transfer me to data group. Glad you got it working |

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Ok, couple questions now that my phone is working.
1) I realized that I didn't select Arcsoft MMS from the dcd kitchen installer, so now I have no MMS functionality. If I reflash with dcd kitchen and include MMS this time, will I end up on hold with tech support again because of the a-key issue? 2) GPS Viewer takes like 3 minutes to get a lock when I'm standing on the roof of my building. Inside the building, 5-10 minutes (if it ever locks). Today I was at the beach with no buildings around and couldn't get -any- satellites. I tried from a park with a couple buildings around and still couldn't get -any- satellites. Is this expected from the gpsOne chip? Would I get better results using a BT keychain GPS? Thanks! |

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Cyclo,
1) I ran into the same issue with the MMS because I read someones guide and it said to leave the default checkboxes checked on DCD Kitchen. I also had to redo my phone. The good news is you go not have to call verizon and set on hold for an a-key. Atleast I didnt. It booted up and connected fine. 2) I am experiencing the same issues as you with my gps, long wait times for a lock. I have asked the question before if others have had this issue. But no resoponse. I was beginning to think they were all having long wait times until yesterday i redid my friends sprint phone and his connected imediately. Has anyone else found a fix for the slow connect issue to GPS? |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Thanks for the reply! I'll try reflashing with DCD kitchen to get MMS back. That's weird about the GPS thing, I guess I'll have to wait for the verdict/solution on that one.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Ok, sorry one more question. When you reflashed with DCD kitchen to add MMS, did you do hard reset first, or just flash it?
|
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
You are running into the same questions as me my friend. I didnt do a hard reset i just cooked the rom with the MMS feature checked off and loaded it back on.
|
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Fantastic, thanks so much for the response. I will go ahead and cook a new rom and flash it.

Anyone got any idea how to fix an Alltel phone? I've tried reloading Olipro 2.40, then falling back to 3.27 which was an older radio that supported GPS. Because of Sprint's "special sauce", I don't seem to be able to downgrade. Also tried downgrading to dcd's custom Titan ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362566 That ROM installs OK, but the dialer still shows "Sprint PCS" and it won't activate on Alltel using *228. |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
I am having a problem with preparing for the flash. I am trying to get the pre- info, but when I dial ##778 I get a recording saying "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, your call cannot be completed as dialed. Is there another number I should be dialing to get my pre- info?
Edit: nm, I was able to get it to work. The first time I tried it, I dialed ##778#. I read that VZ doesn't use the last #, so I would then dial ##778, but the phone would insert the last # anyway - I had to delete it manually. |

But I was wondering, Cant you just find the relocker for titan (on this board) and then flash back to stock roms, then probably call alltel on your landline to get the ESN re registered, as if you just got a new phone?? PS where you are at now, I cant say it wouldnt be worth a try. DID you cook your own, instead of loadin a custom rom, I dunno, maybe, it might do more |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Hi all - did Olipro 2.40, Sprint ROM 3.35 without letting it customize, and the new no2chem 6.1 kitchen. Looks great, phone works, but no internet. Called for a new a-key, got one, didn't fix it. When I would go back, the a-key would be blank. Finally they gave me a new a-key which I also wrote down; still no luck.
The error I am getting is "Error 11: PPP connection error." Then the usual box about cannot connect, username and password wrong. Verizon tech told me to put (mymobilenumber)@vzw3g.com as username, vzw for password, no domain. This didn't fix it. I seem to recall never needing a username or password on my 6700. It doesn't save the password, either. One last thought: I did write down my MSID, but it was the same after flashing. Couldn't find the MDN or whatever to write down - any chance this or *228 or *22899 could have any effect, all of which I've tried? All this work you all have done is magnificent and I thank you from the bottom of my heart - I just wish I could get it to function on my 6800! Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help. |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
blargh... okay so you all might make fun of me because it might seem like i have OCD but I just want my phone to be nice. okay, so i unlock my phone, then i update my phone with the new sprint rom... making sure to soft reset before custimization... la la la, i have tried flashing with 3.0.1 and 2.3.1 verizon dcd roms, to no avail. it still says sprint pcs next to the little phone icon on the today screen and in the dialer... i have also tried making my own rom in both the 3.0.1 kitchen and the 2.3.1 (?) kitchen. please somebody tell me what i am doing wrong and what i need to do to make it say verizon wireless!!! thank you all for your time in advance and thank you to the author who created this thread as it helped me much... im almost there!! thanks guys
also... when i go into today settings to fiddle with placement of things, it says VZW and not sprint... but on the actual screen it says SPRINT pcs and the data connection settings mention verizon wireles... we just need to figure out how to change the damn today screen and the dialer, thanks again guys sorry.. one last thing... does anyone know where to find a listing of details about which each feature is dcds? specifically if there is one that gives a battery icon? thanks |

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
What GPS program are you using?? I use google maps. Sometimes it can take 10-30 minutes to get a good lock, first time after reset (but I hear the newest radio is much quicker). There's lots of info about 'priming' the GPS chip, and it seems like google is a good program to do this with. Did you take your phone outside and wait...and wait...and wait???

I spent a number of weeks reading through the mountains of information about upgrading/flasing/kitchens and all that stuff.
It really very overwhelming. I found some posts that were pretty explicit, but yet i still was unable to truly understand what the process looked like. I've made a quick walkthrough document for those a little nervous about their first flash. hope it helps someone.. it's specific to No2Chem's ROM and PPCKitchen, but is applicable in the same ways, for other kitchens and roms as well. |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Here is the link for how to revert your 6800 back to stock:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=23053 I did spend an hour or so working with Verizon on the internet issues. What we found out is that 1 or 2 of thier server validation sites were lagging out and/or just not authenticating with my service. It took several tries and a lot of patience on our end but we got it going. Just make sure that when u call in that u ask for Tier 3 for support and create the ticket. They are 24hrs and have no time limit on fixing the issues. |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
If I was a giant idiot and flashed sprint and let it do the customization, is there a way to fix it?
Edit: Just found it. Sorry for the post EDIT X2: Ok, so I followed the steps to repair above, and everything looked alright. I then followed the steps at the beginning of this thread (made sure not to boot into the Sprint rom) and then flashed the most recent kitchen. I still cannot *228. It's saying it's not a legit service number or something. I followed the steps EXACTLY on the first post. Am I stil doing something wrong? Do I need to get a new A Key before I try flashing the latest kitchen (get the a-key, put it on the stock Verizon rom, and THEN flash?) Any help is greatly appreciated. |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Hi everybody, I'm new to the site. I was looking for bluetooth fixes for my xv6800. It will not transfer files to other bluetooth pdas even though they find each other and I can create the partnership. When I go to send my phone locks up and I have to do a soft reset. It like it gets stuck searching. Also what are the soft keys I keep reading about for a hard reset. Sorry about the basic questions but I am very new to this. Thanks

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Man, I don't know what the heck I'm doing wrong but I can't get the Sprint ROM to even load. I keep getting an "Error(260): Connection error. I establish the Activesync connection, start the Sprint update, it puts my phone in the Bootloader mode, then a few seconds later I get the error on the screen.
Any help would be appreciated. [EDIT:] I was able to get around the problem. Did you guys know this site has a nifty "Search" feature.......LOL |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
This is my first time posting and I'd like to thank the original poster and everyone else involved to make this upgrade available and doable for us. I followed the steps on the first page and managed to get WM 6.1 verizon DCD 3.0.1 install on my phone. my whole propose of the upgrade was to take advantage of the built in GPS. I installed google maps and when i start the program it tries to connect to the internet. I don't have data plan on my phone so i get charged. Does gps require date plan or at least data connection to work ? one more thing to note is that on the touch screen dial pad im missing the send and end keys.
thank you for your help |

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Mr. Thorogood,
Go over to the main Titan forum and read the "official" GPS thread. Here's the difference in a nutshell: - Without a GPS, you can get approximate locations by using "aGPS" (assisted GPS). It triangulates your postion via the cell towers you're pinging. - With a GPS, it uses the actual GPS satellites to get a much better fix on your location. It can use the cell towers to help out if it needs to. - There are many progams you can buy which allow you to store the maps locally on your SD card. Then you can use the GPS chips to navigate without any data connection. |
