Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
to all that helped, I am happy to say after messing with this all day and getting all the apps reinstalled on my xv6800 I am up and running. Things seem to be working smoothly as well as google maps with gps by itself. Seems to sync up fine. my next task is to get iguidance installed and working. Thanks again to all that has helped. I am so pumped to get this working. and thanks to you all it really wasnt that bad.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
If i have been using the DCD rom which means i unlocked my phone and now want to upgrade to the new 3.01 with the new radio, do i need to re-lock it or just install the sprint and go from there?
|
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
I don't know for sure if you have to do the unlocker again, but I went ahead and did all the steps in the first post and had no problems whatsoever.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Not sure if this is a Verizon issue or not but here is something that has been going on. When you are done using the gps and you close down Google Maps or any nav program for that matter. Once you fire google maps back up again it says initializing GPS and it cannot find it until you do a soft boot.
For now the only solution I have found so far is to use a small program that Baffle created called GPStoggle. Anyone else have a better solution to this problem |

If you are running an older DCD, then you need to upgrade the bootloader to Olipro 2.4. |

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Okay,
I wanted to give you guys an update on my experiences using these directions. I went through all the steps... + Boot loader 2.4 + Sprint Rom (without touching screen) + Then, Nue's Rom After I saw the screen where it said press the screen to set up device after the Sprint install. I didn’t press it. I went back to boot loader to get the rom. I got the rom loaded successfully. I was then stuck in the HTC Mobility screen so I soft-reset. It then booted through to the Windows 6.1 screen. It asked me again to touch the screen to set up windows. So I did because I thought it was okay because it said WM6.1. 6.1 loaded successfully and I was taken to the today screen. I then tried to dial *228 and it said that it was unable to authenticate my phone. I dialed ##778 and got nothing. Dialed ##778# and got nothing. I kind of expected this so I called Verizon's Tech Dept. They had me do all these things again. No luck. I took out the battery and replaced it. The gentleman was stumped on the phone. Then out of nowhere I received a text. LOL. I was like ummmmm...Thanks bye. So now, my phone works. I can make calls. My GPS works. I love the 6.1. But every time I connect to data it says connecting to Sprint...weird. Is this because I touched the screen after the Nue Rom installed? I also don’t have a Verizon Wireless logo in the top left of the today screen. I am assuming that because the Nue Rom is generic that this might be common? But when I click the phone and it shows the phone it says Verizon wireless there. So that is a good sign. Did I do something wrong or is this common? Thanks, Brandon |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Brandon, this is exactly what I did and how it now works for me. I also am trying to figure out if we should allow the customizations to run after the Nue ROM loads. I think I'll dare venture into the NUE thread to see if I can get an answer. Wish me luck!!
Hopefully in a little time I'll figure out how to do Kitchens and basekits and cooking oh my! All I'd really want to do is to figure out how to re-verizon-ize my PPC...but I guess once I get into it I'll start wanting other little tweaks also....as soon as I get the time.... :drunken: |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Yea,
Its not even like its a big deal. Service is good. Gps good. its just wierd to have Sprint stuff in my phone. Nice to know others had the same experience. im just glad it worked :). Do you have a battery meter showing on your today screen? Or a running apps function? I ventured into the Nue Rom thread and it's like 300 pages.](*,) Hard to find anything. Thanks, Brandon Edit: Found the running apps function. DUh! |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Check the GPS thread in the forum one level above this one. It's stickied. Depending on the ROM you installed, GPS is usually enabled out of the box.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Just another confirmation;
Bootloader 2.4, the Sprint Rom & reset before custumizations, Then DCDs Verizon Rom. Everything's OK so far. Calls are comeing in fine without any Akey BS. GPS locks on (TomTom) in about 20 seconds. |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Brandon, no battery...no 'running apps' thingy (I don't even know what that is!)
Hmmm...I just copied my registry to my PC and plodded around it with notepad. Very scary. Lots of sprint references- not just the text references, but hardcoded URLs for things that seem like IOTA config files, network IDS, etc. I wish I hadn't looked. :???: There was a thread about a month ago asking about a no2chem VZ version: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=18844 Maybe it's time to look at one of the vz-built ROMs....or maybe I'm just being too paranoid.... :drunken: ....or maybe I need to learn to cook.... |

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
I actually tried to run DCD's Kitchen first, but has a lot of trouble. I don’t know why. I was in the boot loader and tried to run the ROM according to directions in his word doc. I kept on getting errors saying that I was missing parts of the program. I ran Nue's and it loaded perfectly. I guess I probably could have done the same thing with DCD's Rom by itself, Without the kitchen.
I really don’t have a problem with all of the Sprint stuff in the Nue rom. It connects and that all I care about. :-) Brandon |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
hello all i am also using the sprint update with DCD's kitchen. I seem to be having a problem receiving MMS messages. Has anyone else ran into this? not getting any pictures or anything? I appologize if this has been answered but i have had no problems before I did this update? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Do these instructions work for a brand new phone that has never had any flashes or ROM updates? I'm having trouble matching up these instructions vs. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9927.
On that link it says the first thing you must do is unlock your phone, these instructions don't seem to mention unlocking. Can I completely ignore that thread and just follow the instructions here? Thanks! |

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
a couple questions for my fellow verizon users. are people still having gps sync issues with the new rom. I followed these directions to a T and am using the new DCD rom. but am still facing some issues with connecting (as in it takes a while to connect to a satellite) is there any way around this? I tried using GPS gate and still have the same issues.

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
I called them 3 times (no joke) last night for a new A key and no one got annoyed. The final guy I talked to told me to write it down and as long as I don't call them, I could re-use the one he gave me as they only regenerate a new one if you call. Unsure if this is true or not as I haven't started to mess with my phone today...
To enter it if its lost - you'll be able to tell as a *228 option 1 will say "unable to authenticate your phone" - press ##778# for Sprint radio (or if on No2Chem's latest just go to EPST settings under advanced settings I think), edit, 000000 for unlock code, View info, A-key, enter the humongous 26 digit number, menu and save I think.... Hope this helps and what ever you do, if you upgrade to the Sprint radio DO NOT DO A *228 option 2 or you may brick your phone! Update: re-using the same A key didn't work....getting another one now... |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
If I want to use DCD Kitchen again because i forgot to include the MMS portion do i need to run throught the whole sprint setups for updating the rom. Or can I just jump right to the DCD Kitchen portion?

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Hey I just wanted to say thanks for this thread and simple guide. It gave me the confidence to successfully flash my stock xv6800 to the newest sprint radio and dcd 3.0.1. I'm pretty much issue free at this point. A couple of notes:
After performing the upgrade successfully, the radio suddenly died. A hard reset fixed it. I finally tracked the issue back to installing No2Chem's LED Service Driver cab. I switched to LED Killer 3.1 and everything is fine. There are a couple of other threads I would recommend having handy while performing this upgrade on verizon. One is the Easy Guide to Upgrading. This notes (in yellow text) are good to know. I especially liked the part discussing locker/re-locker. I realized I didn't need to re-lock my pure stock ROM first. The other thread that was valuable was the Stuck in Bootloader thread. Maybe it's more of a security blanket, but after updating my bootloader, I did get stuck at bootloader screen. Having the exit-bootloader utility ready made me feel a lot better those minutes of staring at hot tri-color death. Anyway, I'm very appreciative, and off to read some more threads and learn more about WM6.1. |

Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
Help, the install did not work.
When I tried to flash the sprint ROM it stalled at 11%. I did the recovery process several times, and same thing. It fails at 11%. So what the heck do I do now. I did notice that the bootloader says TITA100 & SPL-1.20.Olipro Did I wrongfully install 1.20 instead of 2.40? How do I recover the phone now since it has a 11% flash on it? Thanks for your help, Tom |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
alright i fixed it by installing the stock verizon rom, relocking the phone, reinstalling 2.40, flashing the stock sprint ROM, and then installing DCD 3.0.1. I did have to get a new Akey

can i install the new Sprint ROM , and load back the regular stock system ROM, and NOT use any of the NUE or DCD custom roms? |
Re: How to upgrade an xv6800 with the new Sprint ROM
The sprint rom crashes on my system when i try and use it. All it does is load the phone into bootloader and then it terminates. I tried to put it in bootloader and then start it but it will crash before it even gets a chance to start anything.
